What do you use for the sterilization of the fresh water tanks in your Romahome? Is it just the same stuff as people use for baby equipment? I've flushed the tank through a few times with cold water but I suspect I'm going to need a little more than that. The tanks doesn't seem to have forgiven us for filling it with Portuguese water in the summer! Martin

Hi Martin There is a product on the market called Puriclean which is specifically for the purpose. SEE HEREBut I wonder if Miltons baby sterilising stuff will do the same job. Graham

Hi,
I've always used Milton (or Tesco equivalent) and never had any problems.
I normally fill the tank up and pump it up through the pipes then leave it to soak for 5 mins or so and clean it all through with fresh water.
It has the advantage of cleansing the waste tank on its way through as well ;D

Boots baby stuff sterilization tablets did the trick nicely. You have to throw about ten tablets in, leave it for an hour or so and then flush through twice with cold water. Down side was that I discovered that overfilling the water tank causes it to leak all over the carpet and underneath the drivers seat!

I would like to clean and flush my Hylo tank with Milton, but I'm not sure how to do this as the pump stops working when the tank still has quite a bit of water in it and I don't want to end up drinking the chemicals. I'd really like to take the whole tank out and give it a good rinse and sterilise - is this practicable? There are lots of black bits in the tank - are these from a filter?

Hi all, I use 5 Milton tablets, one for every 5 litres held in my tank as instructed on the Milton pack. The water capacity in my HyLo is 23.5 litres. I leave it to stand for about an hour, then pump some of the water through the system, so that the pipes and pump are filled with the sterilized water. I then pump out the water with the van facing on an uphill slant. This tips all the water in the tank back towards the pump feed pipe, emptying as much water out of the tank as possible. I then remove the inspection cap off the tank, my tank is behind the drivers seat, and wipe out the remaining water with a clean absorbent cloth, wiping the sides of the tank whilst doing it. There is no need to flush with water ! When you next fill your tank, run your tap to pass some clean water through the system, and alls well !!

Having used Puriclean on the 200L flexible water tank in my boat for many years I also use it in my Hylo. I leave it overnight. Then fill the waste water tank with it, which I leave for a futher half day before emptying. To clear out the water tank I use a new car sponge kept for the purpose; place a bucket adjacent to the water tank; and sponge out the remaining contents, placing your spare hand under the sponge to catch the drips while moving it over to the bucket. This takes about 5-6 spongeouts.
