It always seems that when it is time to strike the awning, pack up and head for home ... IT IS RAININGWell, this time it ... SNOWEDEven the electrickery was ... frozen. We now have the awning taking up the whole of the kitchen, draped over two chairs which are perched on the table forming a pyramid. Isn't motorhoming fun ...

But we all know that you will do it again (and again) ;D
It looks lovely and scenic, were you warm and toasty in the van?

We were OK in the van, the little electric oil filled radiator works a treat and there are always extra clothes to put on if it gets really cold ;D. It even got too hot when the cooker was heating up the evening meal, cardigans and jumpers needed to be removed since the outside temperature precluded opening the door . The morning of the snow, the tugger from the next pitch came to fill his water container from the tap beside us (only to find it frozen up ) and complained that the heating in his caravan could not cope with the cold . We smugly replied that "we were fine in our 'van" ;D. Mind you, excavating through the snow that had slid off the awning in order to find the pegs was a little cold on the fingers. After we had packed up, we called in at the posh Christmas craft fair at Leeds Castle . This was in a huge marquee on the lawns. The snow turned to rain and it bucketed down . The carpets in the marquee started floating as the rain flooded through the tent and all the kids in their wellies were having a great time jumping up and down on the squishy carpet trying to get the water to come through ;D. The staff were trying to sweep the floodwater off the carpets, uphill towards the door, refusing to accept defeat . We left before the rising tide reached the electrics . The rain had stopped by the time we reached their car park and we managed to extricate ourselves without getting bogged down . Winter camping is such fun.

I would much prefer to be in our little Romahome that a large caravan when it snows. We have only camped up once in the snow but it was cosy. Well done Barry, I feel inspired to go off again soon.

We are off to the Forestry Commision Site at Pickering this weekend visiting relatives in Scarborough. And we have just booked the week after Christmas in a CL at the New Forest. Sometimes I don't know if we are just wierd or simply barmy! But when we are away, no matter how bad the weather, the break is just what we need.
From recent posts I gather that there are several of us who spend our time looking after grandchildren, in our case 14 month old twins. We are looking forward to next year and some decent weather so we can take them out in the van.

Hi Colin We have got Grandchildren, but the wife and I work as Childminders and look after up to 5 children during the day while their Mums and Dads go to work, we can't get insurance for the van to take the minded children out because its business use. Having said that we can take our Grandchildren in the van because thats not part of our business, that's the main reason we wanted a Dimension with 4 seats with belts. Roll on summer Graham

We have a caravan and a small motorhome and are always warm in both. The caravan is mainly for when the kids come along as The Nipper (Vauxhall Elddis) is only a 2 berth. Mind you me my daughter her friend and the dog all slept comfortably in the big bed in summer!!
