Hi Ellie What a fab van and I see what you mean about the awning its a real vintage one. I think you'll notice the difference if you get a movelite. Graham

Hi Ellie, Sooty looks awesome, ( I could definitely see the Sooty transfers on the door, they would look cool!! ) I think I have one of those vintage awnings as well, but I have not unpacked it yet to check on the condition.
What is the new one you are looking at? and were would I be able to see a pic of one?
Cheers Dave

Hi Ellie. Great to see another van which looks like mine! I'm thinking of getting a movelite awning because they are pretty cheap and seem to be popular on this site. Wondering now what kind of heater to get to plug into EHU on campsites. Settle...ah yes that brings back memories. I grew up in North Yorkshire, between Leeds and York.

hi dave, I just typed movelite awnings into google! Most stockists seem to be out of stock! i want to be sure it will fit! Any retro roma owners have one? My retro one was fine when i used it in the summer!( But a nylon one would be better!)Existing one Goes with the retro camper and it is driveaway! But you do feel like the clampitts when you arrive on site! Yes the sooty stickers are essential once i get it remounted securely! On newer pick -up! It's on but not bolted at the mo! regards Sunshine1

Hi. Sounds like the area you live is the same place which inspired my love of camping from childhood. (Bridlington, Scarborough, Skegness etc) I did London for a few years too. Very relieved to be out of the city again now. I orderered a Movelite awning from www.campingandleisure.co.uk/catalog/index.phpfor £100. Dan

Hi Shaz, Let me say Hi! And nice you replied to my post with such enthusiasm I love my sooty van, just like you like yours. Mine was on a 900cc bedford rascal 1986 D reg, when i purchased it in the summer. Now remounted on a 1300 Daihatsu. Hopefully more power. We stayed away over xmas on relatives drives. It was good to be back on the road. Like you, we plan to use it a lot this summer going away a couple of times a month at least. And have a two week holiday planned with the start of the Newbie meet in Oxford, then driving to Cornwall and back home via Gloucester shire. Just waiting for my Sooty and Sweep transfers for my front doors. Have a good year Roma homing! SunShine1 Ellie

Hi Shaz, It made my partner laugh when you said you have an Ermentrude in your cab. We have our very own real Ermentrude in form of a very old decrepit Basset hound called Lulu. Shes'just short of a daisy sticking out of her mouth. Been known to where a straw hat with slots to thread her ears through. And our van doesn't have to moo- she does all on her own. Thanks for brightening up our day! Ellie Sunshine1

Most stockists seem to be out of stock! i want to be sure it will fit! regards Sunshine1 Only just noticed this bit, sorry its taken a while to answer the question, YES, the movelite does fit onto the old demountable romahome, we just used a couple of extra guys to pull it tight around the back rather than messing with figure of 8 channels etc. And your right, the inner tent does make a great loo tent on sites without facilities, we used it for that very purpose at a festival last year!!!

The stickers look good - they do a good job don't they? We are having them making a banner with Ruby on it We already have a couple of ladybird's on the side, gecko's on the locker door, dragonflies on the rear and a cluster of flowers at one corner of each side window so we just need her name to finish Barbara

Hi Barbara, Yes I love the stickers and thanks for putting me in touch with Hippy motors. I am waiting for a Butch and a Sue to be designed. So then the new tranformation will be complete. Spent the afternoon hanging blinds in Sooty, only for him indoors to say he preferred the curtains! So the curtains may be back up for the meet, they do look better ,but the dog hair magnet effect drives me mad. Good luck with the Ruby Banner And thanks again Sunshine1 Ellie

Hi Pauline, I think she has now added them to her portfolio- even though she designed them for me! So I am honored to be the 1st Sooty and sweep owner! But feel free to order some! Well I had to have some, well the Roma home is like the sooty and sweep camper. Still waiting for the butch and su to be designed! But on the luton bit I wanted the sooty and sweep show in a big star, which appeared on the shows opening credits! I could have magic wands made and place them around the body and go the whole hog and make Owen do puppet shows through the window! I can dream! Glad you both like them! Sunshine1 Ellie
