You kindly responded to my query of April 29 entitled Disappointed with Eberspacher Heater: in my 2006 HyLo. I have only just got round to checking the heater out (didn't need it in the summer) and put into effect your advice i.e. make sure tank is more than 1/3 full, run engine while starting and start with thermostat wheel full on.
The heater goes through the starting process; you can feel the hot air coming out of the heater's exhaust, but doesnt stay on.
Is there anything more I can do or is it a case of having the heater serviced, even though very lightly used.
Many thanks, Richard

Hi Richard. Firstly check the control thermostat is on max (the black box inside the vehicle), if you have the hot water/ heater check the thermostat on the tank is around 70 degrees, ( this is the thing on the top of the tank with two wires coming out of it and a small adjuster in the middle). Then I would suggest trying it a few times to purge the diesel supply line, if its not been running a while there may have been a bleed back of fuel and it now needs the air purging out. Always either have the vehicle plugged into the mains or the engine running when trying to run the heater repeatedly to be sure the voltage is ok. Otherwise a diagnostic machine will need to be plugged in to see if anything is not well! Ant

Many thanks for your response. I have now had to spend an hour trying out your suggestions. The thermostat on top of the blue tank is set at 64 and that is the setting at which I received delivery. With the mains plugged in and the thermostat dial set at max, I tried running the heater several times. Each time it seems to light. The fan runs at maximum, the air being pushed out takes about 5 minutes to get decently warm, runs for a total of about 15 minutes and then the heater seems to go out: the air coming out gets cooler and there is no exhaust coming out of the exhaust pipe. All this time the fan runs at max. I ran it like this for a further 10 mins but no change.
Even when it was running at its hottest, the air being pushed out was no better than decently warm, and not as hot as I remember it running a year ago. Any further suggestions? Richard.

I run a Webasto diesel heater in my Mazda Bongo, Richard - and as Ant said earlier, it DOES sound like a lack of fuel getting through to the heater. If it goes that far through the start-up cycle, it doesn't sound ( to me ) like there is a sufficient supply of fuel to maintain the running cycle.
Can you definately hear the dosing pump running at an even "beat" - is there a fuel filter in the heater line - either before or after the pump that may be blocked?
