Is anyone going camping over Christmas? Would a Romahome take a Christmas Tree without sticking it through the roof vent, I wonder.

Not camping over Christmas, but was camping last weekend, up in Cumbria on top of the moors!!! and boy did we have high gusty gales, with driving rain, and no the rocking of the van, didnt rock me to sleep!!! But we had a brilliant time, we all cooked different parts of a Christmas dinner and sat down to banquet style setting, in a 300yr old barn, complete with paper chains, made by the children and a disco complete with the lights provided by another member, brilliant time.
Good site for walkers, Lowther Farm, at High Bentham, it is a CL or CS not sure which, owners name is Izzy a 74yrs lady, very very pleasant. some hard standing, the grass is boggy, views brilliant. We paid £10 per night complete with ehu.
Hope you are both well -- Joan

I am hoepfully going to go away for a couple of nights over Christmas, but as more of an avoidance technique than anything. However I do have some battery operated fairy lights. Thinking of Cornwall - maybe "Camping Caradon" near Looe as it's open and sounds nice.

I had planned to and tried to book a few sites. One in the new forest in Hampshire, the other one in Sennen in Cornwall All booked up! Hope to get Sooty finally bolted back on in the next couple of days being remounting him. But the weather has been so cold, wet and windy here. Enjoy xmas Sunshine1 Ellie

You're Nuts - stark, raving bonkers!! Who would want to camp at Xmas in a cold, wet field, when you have a warm house to stay in - with a loverly Christmas dinner - and a snooze afterwards. Bliss!! Mike

Hi Yamaha, Well it's like the true christmas spirit. Jesus was born in a drafty stable. When there wasn't any room at the Inn or the nearest Roma home! Enjoy your warm dry draft free xmas! Sunshine1

We are planning going away next Christmas - we had already booked up to go to Paris for New Year and their is no way we can fit a bunch of girls in stockings.suspenders and frilly skirts in the outlook so the Moulin Rouge has won - but not in 2009. Hoping to find a nice site with snow where we can spend a week over Xmas and New Year getting fresh air and frostbite!! Barbara

We were in North Yorkshire two weekends ago, see picture, thats our 'small' motorhome keeping us very warm. We are booked into a CL in the New Forest for the week after Christmas so hope it is a bit warmer outside, but then it will not be so picturesque I suppose. Incidentally, we were supposed to be staying at the Spiers House Forestry Commision site, we have stayed before but it has just been expensively upgraded and opened for the winter. We just about survived the sheer ice covered entrance road, which is about a quarter of a mile into the forest, only to be told it was closed! Reasons - not tractor to clear site roads, water pipes had frozen, and the late arrivals area had no electric hook ups nor had the area been cleared. Yorkshire, winter, snow - that must have come as a surprise to the Forestry Commission, but their partners the Camping & Caravan Club should have known better. Having no camp site books with us we made our way towards Scarborough and found the site in the picture by chance. Two tractors, all roads cleared, water on side of electric hook up - working - and a three acre dog walk! On the spot we decided to never again leave home without our box of campsite locations. And to buy the Pay As You Go dongle from Vodafone so that we can always get help from the internet. Happy Christmas and New Year whether you are inside bricks or on wheels. Colin

Well it sounds like some of you are really intrepid, camping in the cold. We may well get away in New year but have to confess to not actually camping over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we are going down to South Coast to stay with daughter in the hotel she is running.
Niloc, I agree about never going away without the club books and think a dongle would be excllent addition for checking availability of CLs and CSs as well as larger sites.
Happy camping everyone whatever the weather.
