We hadn’t done it for months. We both knew that we should have, but neither of us could face the ordeal. One of us would psyche up to make the effort, only for the other to cry off. Yesterday was make or break. It had to be done. Furniture was pushed back and a large enough space created on the dining room carpet. We knew it would take hours, but there was to be no turning back. So we got down to it. F I L I N G. Don’t you just love it. Every day the postie delivers yet more paper through the letter box and no matter how thoroughly you sift it into the re-cycle bag or shredder, there is always a residue to be kept for future reference. The filing box was full to the brim and overflowing onto the floor. After what seemed like an age, the pile was reduced to about 3 inches high of papers that “needed to be kept”, but did not fit any category of the box files … the same 3 inches that always defies sorting. There must be a better way. Any suggestions?

Hi Barry
I know just what you mean. I am surprised I have never been crushed or suffocated by the amount of junk rubbish that arrives. Some is in its own envelopes - easy to deal with but the stuff that tumbles out of all the magazines and those free paper catalogues is enough to drown in.
I feel lucky most days if I manage to retrieve the important post in amongst the rubbish. I am still being offered money and loans.
Now as for filing, I have it down to a fine art, everything is filed away quickly in its appropriate section. Quickly to me is within 3 months!! In the meantime it goes in the temp holding folder that is the bureau drawer!!
