Hi all, I am about to camp using the hook up for the first time, please can anyone (ant) give me advice as to what to do - any buttons to press first, switches to activate, in what order please. do i put the stabilizers down first or last or in between? there are switches under the seat with the battery that scare me, haven't touched them yet. thanks in advance for the advice. rachel x ps i have a 96 C15. ta

Not sure about switches, all mine are in the on position! but when you have parked up, engine off, walk to the back, legs down, THEN take the winding handle and place it OVER your CLUTCH and BRAKE. This means that you will NEVER drive away with your legs down. This has been the best advice I was given, ie by a couple who DID drive off with legs down.

Well done with that advice Joan. We have not yet used the stabilisers, no need as yet but when we do I will remember that.

Viv, I think you are supposed to use the legs every time that you are parked up and walking about, not just for a couple of hours, but if for the day and especially overnight, the legs take the strain off the overhang.
I think Ant would agree with me.

Hi Rachel,
I've got a C15 95 so should be much the same. Hope Ant will correct me if I'm wrong - I'm fairly new to this too - but I do things in this order once I've parked.
Put down the stabilisers and then put the winding handle over the brake&clutch pedals (as previously advised - you don't want to drive off with them down).
Check that the the 240v swithches inside the van are off - ie the fridge one and the other one under the seat where the leisure battery is.
Hook up the electrics, switch on the gas at the bottle, then turn the cooker switch inside so that the gas is on. Switch on the 240V switches inside the van ie fridge etc
Basically thats it unless you want to use the blow heating then you have to switch that on too. (gas)
Before moving on I always check that I've switched everything off in the van, turned the gas bottle off then put the fridge on to run off the main battery as I'm travelling ( that wee swtch on the dashboard).
Ofcourse being as forgetful as I am I've probably missed something out so I follow the sticker thats inside the drivers door of the van - I think this was standard at one point, I hope yours is still there. It reminds you to do the things you might forget like shutting the rooflights before you move off.
Hope this helps.
Sooz.

(i even hate electrical shops - gives me a headache and drives me insane), maybe i am a little mad x

Hi Joan I had not thought of the strain on the back of the van and will use the stabilisers in future. Just a pain to have to bother. Never mind I will add it to the list and I love your idea of putting the winding over the pedals.
I bet you are missing Turunc and all that sunshine.

Dear Rachel, How well I remember my first girlie solo overnight in my last van! Rannoch Moor at the glorious spot on the West Highland Way where there's no shelter of any kind for miles.......stabilisers down, gas on, dinner cooked, into bed for some sunsetting and then the wind died down....midgies from nowhere. I wept & screamed as they burrowed into my eyelids, nose etc and got everything back up/in and drove to the Bridge of Orchy Hotel as fast as I could for the night. Baptism of fire. I have a printed copy of my colour pictoral guide which I made myself (got a chufty badge) for the C15 including the "stopping for the night" and "setting off again in the morning" pages which I can send you? I found the IP supplied manual somewhat electrician orientated - not really for chicks..... Cheers, Effie

Great idea about putting the winding handle over the pedals - simple but effective!
I printed a wee reminder, laminated it and put it on my dash when I park up:
"Is the gas off? Are the jacks up?"

Rachel, Email me your home address and I'll do a disk (so you can personalise it for your van) and a hard copy. Are too many photos for emailing. It is a real chick guide. Lizzie, In both my vans there was a stick on reminder at the driver door. Does yours not have this? Effie

Hi Effie - I've just bought my first Romahome and could do with a checklist for girlies! Have you ever thought about selling these on ebay - you'd make a fortune!!!

Hi Effie,
I don't have a sticker on my van, don't know if it's too old or if it's been removed at some point.
Would it be possible to get a copy of your girlie guide too? I'll happily pay postage etc.
Cheers,
Lizzie

Lassies, Sorry, not logged in in a while. I have my settings so that I'd get a notification if there was a reply. Clearly not got that right, so no SMC website chufty badges! Please email me your home addresses and I will send on a paper copy and a disc so you can personalise it as chicks like to do. Don't want to put my real email address cos of the spam sitch, so just use the messaging thing here or the odieeffie-roma@yahoo.co.uk one. Cheers, Effie

Cheers, Effie Effie have you got your bookmark preferences set to email? There is more information here about email notification: smallmotorhome.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=photoattach&action=display&thread=1147855448If you have everything set correctly and have ticked the 'bookmark this thread' box when replying then the only other explanation is that Yahoo are treating the notifications as spam and deleting them before delivery! So no chufty badges for Yahoo! (whatever they are!)

Dear All, I have my wee HyLo "manual" ready to send off to Penzance and Stoke-on-Trent (you know who you are-there are trolls on every board so am careful with folks' personal details) if the Edinburgh chick (or anyone else for a laugh) wants a copy, please get in touch.
Dear Graham, I have reset my preferences and no better so I reckon it's a yahoo thang.
Are you old enough to remember the Tufty Club & Tufty badges? Well, a Chufty badge is an amalgamation of that and being sufficiently chuffed with oneself to award a personal pat on the back. But having seen the ability of folks here to fit their own lights, fridges, fuses etc, I'm actually a big Jessie.
Cheers, Effie
