As said previously I now have an '06 Hylo...well soon. As I am rubbish at haggling it will not come with a gas bottle. What gas type/size do I need? Also is it possible (or a daft idea) to store two small bottles in the locker so I always have a back up - but will end up needing to change over frequently?

I think I am right in saying that you need camping gaz 907, when we had our Duo we could fit two cylinders in the gas locker and would swop over when one was empty.
It depends on how much gas you use as to whether you change over frequently but ours would last a fair while.

Thanks Graham. Did you stack them on top of each other or need to build a shelf to divide the locker in two?

Hi, go to your local tip and you may just be lucky to buy one for approx £5 - £10 sometimes nearly full of gas. I used mine for 10 days, before it had to be changed.
In my C15 1989 model I only had 1 outside locker, 1 was underneath a removable shelf, with the one being used on top.
My present C15 1999 has two outside lockers, so 1 used to store spare bottle and ehu cable and bits and bobs, the other obviously has the bottle in use.

Yes do go to your local tip but my advice for what it is worth is exchange the cylinder even if it has gas in to be safe. You have no knowledge of how the cylinder has been kept. If you exchange it for a full cylinder at a shop the cylinder will have been checked as okay.

Hi, I've got the same model Romahome as you. We carry a spare bottle of Gaz 907, only near the end of the life of the one we are using. There is 2.75kg of gaz in a 907 bottle, if you weigh the bottle when full, and then again after your 1st trip, you should be able to estimate your usage. The bottles are not all the same weight when empty, so you need to weigh each bottle at the start of use. You should have to external lockers, the one that doesn't have the gas fittings in should not be used for storing the extra bottle, as it does not have any ventilation holes, as does the designated gas locker, to prevent any potential gas leak from the cylinder from builing up into a fire/explosion risk. We spent 15 nights away, and used the fridge on quite a few day trips between gaz changes. I have recently bought a 12v electric hot plate, to save on gaz when on site with electric hook-up. The plate cost about nineteen pounds. If you are paying for your electricity, you might as well use it.

I forgot to say, we paid 18 pounds for a refill of gaz, a few weeks ago.

Thanks Graham. Did you stack them on top of each other or need to build a shelf to divide the locker in two? Ours went one at the back and one at the front but it could be the lockers are smaller now. Graham

When we changed our motorhome in 2007, the dealer at that time told us to take the bottle out of our trade-in for the new van. It did not come with a calor gas bottle.
When we bought our first one, the dealer gave us a gas bottle, at that time gas was a lot cheaper than it is now.
When we collect our R20 Outlook (hopefully have it in 4 weeks time), we are hoping to change a calor gas bottle for the camping gaz canister - am busy using it in the house with our camping stove to get it near empty!! After all, I am Scottish!
I feel if you have managed to get a good deal with your vehicle, you can't expect an even better deal all the time.

We started with a Camping Gaz 907 in our Outlook but we have moved to the smallest of the Calor Propane bottles, holds more gas for the same price refill and works better in winter. We cannot carry a spare cylinder as the other Outside locler has the hot water boiler in it.
