Can anyone give me info re. alarm systems for Romas. Do they need the full works? Is it worth spending a great deal of money? Also does anyone have any tips around D.I.Y. methods of keeping the bad people at bay!

Sorry, don't know anything about alarms for Romahomes (yet), when we had out Autosleeper Trooper, we did have an alarm but also used a clutch claw and a steering wheel clamp. Took us ages to put them on but think how long it would take thieves!
On our current Trigano Tribute, we have a Thatcham 1 Cobra alarm which cost us over £500 then we had to get an extra electronic key, neither the clutch claw or steering wheel clamp fit it.
When we get out Outlook in just about 18 days, hoping clutch claw etc. will fit. We will then decide what to do about alarms. Motorhome dealer says deadlock should be enough, perhaps Ant will give an opinion.

We haven't got an alarm fitted to our Dimension but we did buy a wheel clamp for it when a chap round the corner from us had his motorhome stolen.
It's a bit of a pain taking off and putting it on but it gives us peace of mind as the van is parked on the front of the house at night and I think it serves as a good visible deterent.

I'm not a great fan of Alarms, they all seem to use battery power when dormant ( despite what the alarm manufacturers say to the contrary), every vehicle I have in the yard with an alarm needs to be started every week to keep the battery charged where vehicles without alarms go for months quite happily. When did you last check a vehicle with the alarm sounding? If there was someone breaking in the last thing you want to be doing is confronting someone who has probably got something hard and sharp in his hand to gain entry with. All berlingos have a built in immobiliser so the van is unlikely to be driven away without the key ( If you leave the key in the ignition you can't be helped!). I would just be properly insured and don't leave anything that might tempt a break in on view. Ant

Hello, when posting previously, couldn't remember the name of the steering wheel clamp. It is Disklok.

Thank you all for feedback. I have just been quoted nearly £600 for an alarm system for my Outlook which was rather worrying. I shall have to consider whether this would be a good investment.
It would appear baldybantam that you and I are expecting our Outlooks at about the same time! I am now getting rather excited and can' t wait to be at the coast somewhere trying it out. The problem is I shall be frightened of it getting dirty or scratched! One of the drawbacks of buying new!

I use a Thatcham immobiliser and a Dislok. How many times have you ignored alarms going off?

We had a toad alarm system already fitted on the outlook when we got it from Tim and Kris and is it used daily the battery should keep charged up - Still use a steering wheel lock with the flashing neon indicator fitted as we feel a high visibility device may be a good deterrent especially when parked in car parks doing shopping (URGHHH!!) etc Failing this I could put a picture of OH in back and that should keep most things away!!!!!
