We are six weeks away from our first major trip of the new year, a five day stay in The Lake District, plus a two day stay in York ! We know York quite well and have worked out an itinerary (busy) for those two days. We don't know The Lake District, I have spent a few days there looking at neolithic/bronze age monuments, but not taking in the general beauty of the area. I am researching as much as possible in books, but would welcome any suggestions from members as to "Not to be missed places". We are not great walkers, so fell walking is not an option, although we are both quite fit, and short ( 3-4 miles) walks are O.K. I am a keen photographer, and we both like looking around towns and villages. We are staying, for the duration of our visit, at a Caravan Club managed site, on the edge of Lake Windermere. Thanks, in advance, Alan.

If you are a photographer anywhere in the lake District is a feast. I first went there using Kodachrome slide film, but the expense was so restrictive with all that beauty around. Since then I have been back with a digital camera and loads of batteries, having to download onto the laptop every night and recharge the batteries. Watch out if you are keeping your eye to the viewfinder - there be bogs!
Hope your partner is used to being alone or there will be cream teas to buy, believe me!
Very envious
