Although I say so myself my newly covered cushions look very nice and were much easier to do using the stapling technique. But the cushions slide onto the floor when I'm driving around. I have thought of several ideas to prevent this ie. velcro, which brings me out in a rash for some reason, ties attatched to the wall under the window somehow, chunks of foam wedged between the seat cushions or some of that anti slide material that goes under carpets. Anyone tried these ideas? I'd love to hear contributors solutions to what must be a common problem before I work my way through the wrong ones! As ever I'm extremely grateful for any advice. dorneyi

What about some of that "sticky" rubberised stuff you buy to stop items in your cupboards knocking together.
It also certainly stops things sliding about.
I have some on top of my washing machine and then a tray on top of that which holds all sorts of garden stuff, gloves etc. which are just dumped there when we come in from outside. The tray stays put when machine is on and spinning furiously. ;D

our van had some battons screwed to the underneath of the cushions that sat just up against the edge of the fibreglass storage area, no way the cushions could move then. Probably the easiest way is to put 1 cushion on at a time and reach underneath it and using the fibreglass as a guide, draw a line where the batton needs to be. If the fabric extends beyond where the batton needs to be, either remove some fabric or just screw the batton over it, but it maybe as well making holes in the fabric BEFORE you drill and screw, otherwise you will end up with the drill/screw twisting the fabric and ripping it.
hope that makes sense!!

Thank you all for your excellent ideas. I'm interested in the batten idea mainly because the battens would be attached to the cushions making for uncomplicated bed assembly. Tell me more please glenw. Presumably the battens don't intefere with the level of the bed when it's made up in it's double state. What are the best dimensions for the battens? Does it need battens the length of the locker or would two little blocks do as well? Do the battens get wedged in firmly or do they just sit in the space against the edge? I see a solution to the problem on the horizon. Hurrah! dorneyi

Hi Dorneyi,
from memory, each cushion had a single wooden batton, probably 1"x1", countersunk and screwed into place. They sat up against the rim of the locker, not tight but flush, probably mm away. ( a nice mix of metric and imperial in this message! :-) ) They didn't run the entire length of the cushion, more like about 2/3 of the length. This meant that they didn't interfere with setting up as a double bed - assuming your bed, like ours, just sits on 2 pieces of wood bridging the gap between the lockers. All the battons were identical, we didn't need to ensure each cushion was in a certain place.
I'm afraid I can't give you any photo's, we sold our romahome late last year!
hope that helps,
Glen

Thanks Glen, that's just what I needed to know. I'm sure I can go ahead with that idea now. Any more ideas about how to keep the narrow cushions in place as well? dorneyi

we didn't have a problem with the narrow cushions falling about if we had them in the backrest position, they seemed to fit tight into place, but more often than not, we had that much stuff in the back, they had nowhere to move anyway!!! We didn't travel light very often, usually taking folding bikes, dog, awning etc etc etc
