We collected our R20 Outlook today - we are absolutely delighted with it, early days but ticks all the boxes so far.
On page 23 of the Romahome Owners book, we are a bit confused as to the speed limits shown - 50 on ordinary road, 60 on dual carriageway and 70 on motorways.
On our OLD vehicle which was larger and heavier, we could do 60 on an ordinary road and 70 on dual carriageways and motorways as the vehicle was not 3.5 tonnes.
Please could you clarify, maybe we are being a bit thick. Thanks

I am going to stick my neck out here, but I think that Romahome have got this round their necks According to MMM magazine, Nov 2008 issue, "The speed limits for vehicles properly registered as motor caravans are defined in the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, Section 86 (1) and Schedule 6, as being;
The same as cars for vehicles with an unladen weight of up to 3050 Kg and no more than eight passenger seats (70 mph on unrestricted motorways and dual carriageways, 60 mph on other unrestricted roads).
Motorhomes up to 12 m in length, exceeding 3050 Kg unladen weight, and/or with more than eight passenger seats, are restricted to 50 mph on single carriageways, 60 mph on dual carriageways, and 70 mph on motorways (unless lower speed limits apply).I trust that your R20 has been registered as a "motor caravan". The R20 will be well less than 3050 Kg unladen, even our brand spanking new Dimension is listed as only 2675 Kg Actual Vehicle Mass (and our handbook contains the same speed limit advice as yours). Perhaps Brian Bailey can come on here and clarify.

Our Duo Hylo (now R20) was registered as light goods but as it was a car derived van under 2 tons (just) it still came under normal car speed limits.

Hi Baldy The speed limit of a vehicle registered as a commercial van would indeed be restricted if its revenue weight was greater than 3050Kg. a small Berlingo based Romahome is below that weight and should therefore not be effected. The hand book is out of date and is now as we speak being updated. In the early 90's the registration class itself determind whether a vehicle was a restricted commercial or an unrestricted car or motorhome. I try to register all my new vans as Motorhomes but they normally come from Citroen as Car derived vans, to change the class at registration involves about nine other forms and proof of ID from the customer, I think I'm the only one who bothers and I must admit I sometimes wonder why I do as it makes very little difference to the customer. Apart from that day when you're doing 70 on a dual carriage way being followed by a police man who puts your van details in his computer to find its registered as a commercial, can he tell its weight or is he going to stop you and leave you to prove your case? It is actually £5 cheaper for RFL to be registered as a commercial than a Motor Caravan ! I don't understand either. You can undo an incorrect registration class by getting the vehicle inspected by the DVLA ( at a cost) but your not alone, in fact I think the correctly registered vehicles are in the minority. In short don't worry about it! Ant

Thanks for that, we thought there was something as previous vehicle 3300kg.
Can I be a pest and now ask for the CC of the R20? We think our insurance company have got it wrong as they have said the make and model is 2001cc to 3000cc in the make and model.
Checked Askmid last night just to make sure new vehicle is on the insurance database. Want to get it sorted out properly now and could explain why they asked for increased premium on our old vehicle.
Thanks,

Thanks Derek, we thought it was 1560cc, don't know where the insurance company came up with their numbers - the girl seemed a bit thick - not sexist, being female I can say that!!
