We've just been off to Aberdaron on the Lleyn Peninsula for a few days. We often get asked about our little hylo, but this time we thought we had reached a record. Two people stopped us in the petrol station before we left our home town, then within five minutes we had hit a traffic jam on the A55 and were asked about the van by motorists in the adjoining lane. My husband thinks we should have leaflets printed .... Have we set a smallmotorhome record, or can you do better? Aileen.

Yes, I can beat your record. I have a Renault Kangoo Roo and it attracts attention (sometimes too much attention...) wherever it goes. A recent short trip generated a tap on the shoulder in the local supermarket petrol filling station, a couple knocking on the window whilst tucking into a meal one evening, a curious elderly lady joining me for ham butties in a supermarket car park, another tap on the shoulder at a filling station, an enquiry whilst parked at a harbour enjoying the view, three couples caught peering in through the rear windows - and one waited for my return to ask details of the converter, two adjacent motorhome owners exchanging 'guided tours' of their Hymers in exchange for a peer into my Roo and ... These were just the first few on a 4-day trip. I could go on to list the rest but I think you'll get the general idea! I think there's a lot of curiosity re small campers/motorhomes. I've found there are two main questions - the first is where to buy them and the second is always "is there a loo?"!

We used to get loads of interest in our Duo when we had it, especially in France, we were once stopped in a car park by the Mayor of the local town and he was fascinated by it, I think because the base vehicle is a Citroen which obviously they are very familiar with but they have never seen one converted to a motorhome.
Also we also couldn't understand the strange marks we kept getting on the outside of the back window, we would clean it off only for it to appear again next time we left it in a car park, then one day we came back to find someone peering through the back window with their eyes cupped by their hands and realised the strange marks were in fact made by two hands and a forehead when people were "having a nosey". ;D
