Hi Everyone! Hope you all had a good Easter! Is there a legal pitch size? Somewhere in my head, the the area of 20 foot came into to my head! We went away this weekend, pleasant enough site! But I was concerned. We were terrible close to the neighboring caravans with vehicles, parked across the front of the caravans. I did think if someone had a fire, the whole lot would go up, cars, vans and awnings. Had fire extinguisher handy at my feet! Sunshine1 Ellie

This is exactly why we use Camping and Caravanning Club sites when we can, they have a six metre rule which means that no unit can be less than 6 metres away and most of the time the warden will pace out the 6 metres to ensure the rule is adhered to when siting a newcomer.
Also caravan club are good because they have marked pitches which you have to on.
We have been to some private campsites where we set up in a nice pitch with a reasonable space between us and the next unit and lo and behold someone comes with a tent and pitches in between the two units with no supervision from the warden at all, I sometimes think that at busy times some campsite just try and cram as many on as possible.
If there is a law it seems a lot of campsites ignore it.

Hi Graham, Thanks for that! I thought the 20 ft measurement rang a bell! If we hadn't had a rear awning we wouldn't have been able to pitch! We nearly didn't have an hook up, has four hook ups came from one post and only by laying ours under next doors caravan did we manage. And then that would have been going through their awning, if they had managed to have pitched it.! The next caravan to us turned up on the Sunday, evidently a seasonal pitch holder, and couldn't put up their awning. I would have been more than a bit peeved All in all, a pleasant weekend, only rain Friday teatime on wards. Sunshine1 Ellie

Hi Graham, We had wondered about the C.L. sites! With being small we had wondered whether we would have enough personal space. So thanks for making me aware. Does the caravan club membership run year to year or does it renew annually on the date you joined? You and Pauline are stars! Sunshine1 Ellie

Sunshine1 Ellie Thanks Ellie Graham is off on footie business so I will reply. Even the CL sites have to stick to the 6 metre rule and as they can only have 5 vans at a time it makes it very pleasant. (Although we have heard that the Caravan Club are thinking of increasing the number of units on on the CL's to 8) As regards membership, it is renewed annually on the date you joined.

Thanks Pauline for the info! We will have used nearly all of our hols after our 15 days away in May. So will definitely join for next year. If not in September when Owen would like to go to North wales for a few days. I don't know where the time goes! Moving house and decorating isn't conducive with having a camper. Well hopefully by Xmas the house will be done and we can get away more next year. Sunshine1 Ellie

Totally agree with Graham re club pitches (either club) I hate it on private sites when you are jammed in.

Hi Sunshine1 I can't remember the exact distance between Units But a Rule Of Thumb we used to use, is that two cars must be able to pass each other between Units. This is for the access of Emergency Vehicles, such as Fire Appliances and Ambulances. When you go to Static sites look at the gap between Caravans you will find they are all at a constant distance. Gingertom (Retired Fire OFFICER).

Thanks Gingertom! I felt a little bit uneasy last weekend, with the lack of space. Had fire extinguisher ready! Sunshine1 Ellie

Apart from the guaranteed space and quality of facilities on the Camping and Caravanning club sites, the big bonus is that you pay per person and for anyone over 55 there is an age concession rate. Anyone over 55 gets a discount in Low and Mid season so last week I got a reduction of £1.95 per night. If my partner was over 55 we would get a reduction of £3.90 per night.
