Hello Aileen,
you are probably back by now, just seen your post.
We've stayed at Carradale Bay Caravan Park ( caravan club affiliated). Beautiful setting, we did find the shower/toilet block a bit dark - lighting could have been improved. Site has been changed hands since then though
Also, a lot of rabbits there and you have to watch your feet in the twilight for rabbit holes, my feet found them a lot ;D
Apart from that, beautiful setting, beautiful scenery whichever way you arrive at it, lovely walks from there with shops etc. in a neighbouring village, can be got to on foot from site.
Perhaps you could tell us of your experiences and sites visited now.
Margaret

Ohhh lucky ppl. I intend to go back to Kintyre, my most favourite place. Maybe next year, as £££ are flying out of here on fast wings at the moment! Here's the place I'll camp, on the beach!! www.muasdaleholidays.com/

Sorry, I've just seen your posts, and yes I'm back. We stayed for a couple of nights in Point Sands, Tayinloan, near Tarbert, and also a night in Machrahanish. Sites were ok, but weather pretty dismal. Undaunted we then had a couple of nights on Islay, before heading back to the mainland and then having a night near Culzean Castle and then a night in Portpatrick. The sun finally shone on our last day, but we had a lovely holiday, chilled, read, got stuck in mud, Our new van was great and again we met admirers on our travels! Only 5 weeks until our next holiday.....

I realise that this reply is far too late for the original request, and that this site is not strictly in Kintyre, but it is nearby!
Tayvallich (pronounced Tay-vee-al-ich) is in the Knapdale peninsula, accessed from Lochgilphead - it's the bit that anchors Kintyre to the mainland! Unlike Kintyre, the scenery is definitely Highland, so it sometimes gets midges at this time of year.
Leachive Caravan Park in Tayvallich is basic but really nice - we've been there occasionally for over 30 years, sometimes for a week at a time when the children were small. Great forest walks, beautiful coast line, and a wonderful beach on the other side of Loch Sween, beyond Castle Sween.
Good birdwatching around the area, and Knapdale is the area where they have just released beavers into the wild, though I don't know if they can be seen.
If you are into pre-history, there is lots to do in the Kilmartin area just to the north, where many prehistoric sites are being explored by archaeologists.
And on a very wet day, it's not too far from the bright lights of Oban! For years, my children assumed it always rained in Oban, because we only went there when it was too wet to do anything else.

Hi Paul, We didn't stay here this time, but did when I was about 8 (heading for about 40 years ago!) A few years ago we rented a cottage in Crinan, and my husband and I cycled to Tayvallich so I could indulge in some reminiscing. It really is a lovely area, and we may well head back that way again next year. And when I was small I thought it always rained in Oban too for exactly the same reasons! Aileen
