When we parked Elvis at Durdle Door we were on a bit of a slope and could have done with some ramps to bring the front wheels up. Any advice on the best sort to get would be appreciated. I presume the back, drop down legs are for steadying the rear rather than for levelling?

Cheapskate here made some leveling blocks out of timber. First scrounge some offcuts of 7" by 2" (the size builders use for floor joists), preferably about 2' long Measure half way along, mark it and measure two and a half inches each side. Now draw a diagonal on the 2" edge each side and straight across top and bottom. Find a sharp panel saw, clamp the wood in a workmate or vice (if you don't have a vice ask Yamaha, he has plenty ). Get sawing, if the saw is sharp it should be easy. Trim half inch from the sharp ends and you will end up with two 14" leveling blocks with a 5" ramp. Regarding the corner steadies, the Duo Hylo hand book states "Do not lower them to the extent that the unit is off the ground". I take it from that you can level the back with them a little. I would try and get the front wheels fairly level first. Ant may have more to say on the matter, he has to mend the vans when folk have broken them. By the way, we love Durdle Door but we normally stay in Swanage, I seem to remember gunfire, did you need earplugs? They also like flying round in big planes at abt 100 ft in the middle of the night ! Derek

Thanks Derek but that sounds like a job for a skilled person! I think I'll look out for ready mades! We were very lucky not to have the firing range operational whilst we were camping, just a few rescue helicopters looking to rescue pillocks jumping off Durdle Door! Cheers for your kind advice though.

Hi jax
We bought two yellow ones from Halfords. I have noticed the same thing but smaller and wish we had bought the smaller ones for storage purposes but not a major problem. Have never used them though as we are usually level enough.

Thanks Viv. I asked in halfords today but they only had large metal ones. However, on checking the Argos catalogue, I noticed some "caravan levellers" that look as if they woukd do the trick so I'l check them out.

hi jax, Bought a pair of chocs as I call them in a caravan shop. I think they are similar to the ones you've seen in argos ie the bigger ones. They are slightly bulky but we just throw them in the van and take them out at our destination. I've used them on every trip except one cos the ground wasn't completely level and I'd rather not sleep on a slope Mine were quite cheap and I'm glad I bought them. Easy to drive on to too, so I think they are well worth the cost. Sooz.

Always try and reverse onto them, then if the ground is a bit soggy, you have a bit of ramp to get you going. Just don't stop to pick them up until you are on firm ground! ;D

Thanks Wendy, sounds like excellent advice. Elvis now has some smart yellow ramps from Argos. It will probably mean we never need to use them but will always be prepared. And we'll make sure we reverse onto them if it's swampy. Jax
