I have recently returned from my holiday in Cornwall staying for the first week at Sennen. The electricity was very unpredictable and was going off and on on several days. This is apparently normal for Sennen but if this is the case I am surprised the C&CC does not mention this prior to accepting bookings with hook-up. On one occasion the hook-up connection had tripped while we were out shutting off the fridge. After sorting this with the warden I found each time I tried to switch on my Remoska it tripped the elctrics. Nothing else did this so I assume it must have been the Remoska. Has anyone else had problems with the hook-ups at Sennen or with their Remoska. On our return it worked without any problem. One forum mentioned that the least bit of damp in the lid will cause it to trip so I am presuming this may have been the reason. We had a wonderful trip apart from this and would love to return soon. My Outlook was fabulous. So easy and comfortable to drive and a pleasure to live in. I especially love the Heki rooflight as I used to miss the early morning sun on the tent when I started using my C15 for camping. While at Sennen I met a young couple who were borrowing their mother's Roma. I dont think I am ready yet to loan mine to my family! At Tregurrian there was a Dimension with orange awning. Didnt get chance to speak to them but wonder if they are from this site. Lizzie.

Hi Lizzie never had a problem with using mine.It is low wattage, so unless yours is faulty, cannot help.

Thank you all for your feedback. I have decided that the problem was some water or condensation in the heating element. Of course once it dried out it worked again OK. How moisture gets into to the lid on an occassional basis I am not sure but something I have to be careful about when in use.

Having said I had no problem with my Remoska, I now have to report two incidents. I took off the lid without turning off the power and put it upside down on the chopping board I use for the purpose. Unfortunately I then rested the metal trivet on the lid. That tripped the MCB on my site outlet. Then when I cooked a meat pie (healthy eating by Fray Bentos in a tin) on the trivet in its high position (fresh veg then cook separately underneath), the puff pastry rose so much that it touched the lid. That also tripped the MCB on my site outlet.
The site manager had certainly heard of Remoska's, and told me that she had actually tripped the whole site electrics when using hers in the kitchen of the reception hut.
Having said all that, I am a devoted fan of the Remoska and the food it produces. To put the above into context I have spent more than 70 nights in the van this year on C&CC sites, and used the Remoska for most of those. Juices bubble away in the pan on a regular basis, but I have had no damp problems. I only wipe the lid with a damp, not wet, cloth after use.
A question for any electician out there though. Why is it that the MCB (not the RCD) on the site outlet trips, and not the MCB in my van?

Hi Roger I am also a fan of the Remoska. We bought the small one for the Romahome (the one without the glass in the lid) and started using it at home, it never did make it into the Romahome and was in regular use at home. When we took on our static last year we took it there where it is still going strong. We lashed out on the standard one for home. After a few months, after using it, switching off and upturning the lid to cool, it failed to work the next time. The plugtop fuse was OK but there was no continuity so I assumed the element had failed and took it back to Lakeland where they cheerfully exchanged it for a new one. I suspect that the element is suspended in some funny way and doesn't particularly like being upside down. In the case of yours it seems that the element is shorting on itself, perhaps it goes round twice? If you are near a Lakeland, I would suggest swapping it for another one. Now why are you knocking out the site MCB and not yours, could be many reasons, yours is faulty, the site one is on a hair trigger, wrong phase of the moon , I would check yours first. Derek

I am also a big fan of the Remoska. I used mine last at Teversal with no problems at all, cooking steak pie slices, baked potatoes, etc. from the site shop, as I am on my own I use the standard one, it gets used most days at home, though pricey a fantastic buy, have not used my cooker oven since the purchase. Hi Bryan
I'm going off topic a bit here but I've just seen your avatar and love the name of your van "meshelle", very creative, made me laugh. ;D
We often go to Teversal, we'll keep a look out for you.

Hi Derek .... Just back from a tour abroad, and as usual relied heavily on the Remoska. Towards the end, however, my EHU died. Luckily food was cooked by then! I checked later and found the van RCD had tripped. Tried Remoska, and again the RCD tripped. Everything else ok.
Back home, where I have fuses, I switched on the Remoska to dry out possible condensation in the lid. It heated, and sure enough it was then ok in the van.
I think I was cooking potatoes on the upturned trivet at the time it went, and imagine that there was enough steam close to the lid to cause the problem. I think I will discard the trivet in future.

Hi Roger
Thats interesting, we have recently had our home electrics upgraded so we now have RCD,s. No problems with the Remoska up to now. I am a bit confused how steam can condense in a hot lid and trip the RCD, maybe it is getting into the plastic handle and causing problems where the on/off switch is. I still think yours has a fault, a leak where there shouldn't be one perhaps. We exchanged ours when it was nearly two years old without difficulty, we did have our receipt however. The Lakeland guarantee is, and I quote, "Probably the simplest guarantee in the world! If you're not satisfied at any time, you receive your money back! This is our promise." No time limit there.

I think Remoska lids dont like being turned upside down! The instructions advise doing this when the lid is taken off because of the high temperature on the inside but I have found this will trip the electrics even at home. A friend of mine uses her shallow Remoska pan as a lid rest to avoid damage to surfaces or non-stick lid but this seems a pretty expensive trivet!
Has anyone taken this prblem up with the manufacturers do you think. Maybe I will mention it to Lakeland on my next visit. Of course these great little cookers are I imagine a pretty simple design so may have inherent weaknesses - but I still love it!
