How come, I thought? The one spotlight that was working was a very dim glow and the strip light refused to work at all.
Guess what - I hadn't noticed that the little light outside the back door was on - and probably has been left switched on since I went to Aberystwyth w/e 19th July! Maybe even before that... Doh.
I do have an excuse - it was so dim and full of verdigris that you couldn't see if it was on or off, especially in the daytime.. So now I know which way 'off' is on the switch, I've marked it thus with a permanent marker. I've also cleaned it out and put two new bulbs in, but it's not working. Ah well. It's very rusty inside, even tho the wires are ok, so perhaps it needs a new one.
I also stripped down one of the little spotlights inside the 'van as it wasn't working - dunno who wired it b/c the one opposite was wired completely differently. Sorted that out - the wire had come off the switch bit inside, so just rewired and put back together. I ran the 'van for 15 mins and the leisure battery was charging from the relay... (and the spots were brighter while the engine was running!) Charged leisure battery overnight on trickle charger and - hey presto - we have lights!
So I'm just hoping that the outside light being on was actually the problem and that it isn't a short somewhere as I'll have to call in experts to deal with it!
I will soon know, leaving a light on or a short somewhere will take a very short time to run the l/battery down.
Cross your fingers I've got it sorted! ;D I hope so, I'm going to the Moira Furnace Fest in a couple of weeks and there's no EHU!!!
