Hi all We've just arrived home after a week away, 3 nights in Whitby and the rest at the Caravan Club site just outside Whitley Bay, its a great site in a lovely location with superb views of St. Mary's Island and lighthouse. Review will go on the website soon. Anyway we left the van on site a lot and either caught the bus or walked but on the Wednesday we decided to drive out of the site, thank goodness we did because while we were away a 4x4 with a dodgy handbrake rolled down the sloping site straight across our pitch where our van would have been and crashed into the motorhome on the next pitch knocking it off its pitch and carrying on to crash into a caravan as well! The motorhome is a write off and the elderly couple thankfully were out at the time and were unhurt, they had to curtail there holiday and go home minus their van. We felt so sorry for them but had it happened a couple of hours earlier they would have been sitting right where the 4x4 impacted their van. Apart from that we had a great holiday and the weather was very kind to us, lots of walking, bird watching, fish and chips and the odd pub visit to sample the local real ale. Graham

So pleased to hear that no one has been hurt, I now feel justified that I always leave my vehicle in gear, especailly on a slope for the opposite direction!.

Wow, sounds like a really lucky escape for all. Vans can be repaired, or even replaced, but thank goodness you weren't there and the other couple were out!
Could I ask where you stayed in Whitby? I have friends there so am looking for somewhere really close to the town.

Hi Jane We stayed at the Caravan Club Site which is called Low Moor, it has no toilet or shower but with electric it only cost us £40 for 3 nights. It is about 7 miles from Whitby. We haven't put a review on the website yet but there is another one in Whitby that Aileen has sent in see this link WHITBY CAMPSITEGraham

We have stayed at Low Moor and will be again in September. Good for walking the dog but you need torches to go out at night. It does get fully booked in September as we found to our cost one year. One tip, if it is fish & chip night get there early, I wandered up to the van and was last in the queue and it took an hour to get served.

pleased you had the lucky escape and especially no one was hurt. It could have been very nasty.
