Hi Ant,
I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping you can shed some light on regarding my 2005 Hylo Berlingo:
Firstly, when I switched on the Eberspacher heater recently, it ran, but produced no hot air. When I onserved white smoke outside the vehicle I switched it off pretty quickly. I have looked at other answers to Eberspacher problems on this forum, but I'm not sure that I've found the answer. Please can you tell me what the problem might be?
Secondly, I was going to take the Romahome for a run at the weekend (I don't use it every day), and after about a mile I noticed that the engine coolant temperature guage was on about 80 degrees, and briefly went above that. I can't remember what readings I've seen there before, and was wondering if that is higher than it should be? I've just been for another run. I drove about fifteen miles, and temperature readings were similar to at the weekend. At the end of the run, I let the engine idle on my drive for a few minutes, and the needle gradually went over 90 degrees (half way) before I switched off the engine.
The engine is a 1.9 diesel, coolant level is normal, and the vehicle has been serviced recently.
Many thanks,
David

Hi David. How much diesel did you have in the tank? The Eberspacher takes it diesel from the return pipe into the tank, if you have less than a third of a tank of diesel the heater will not fire up due to a lack of fuel, the white smoke is a function of poor fuel supply. I would fill the tank and try again, listen out for the ticking noise of the heaters diesel pump, if it ticks quickly the diesel has not reached the heater yet and the heater may just run on at full speed without heat. Turn it off and try again about 2 mins later. If you don't use the Eberspacher regularly it will become problematical. With the temp' of your engine don't worry about it. The most important thing to test is that the radiator cooling fans cut in. Take the van for a short run and then just leave it running, most 1.9 engines will run the fans at about 95 degrees, stay with the vehicle until you hear or see the fans running ( it can take some time). Once you hear the fans relax, if they don't cut in get it sorted as to over heat any diesel engine is the best way to break it! Ant

Thanks, Ant. I will try your suggestions. I am assuming that white smoke does not mean that it is about to burst into flames!
