The movelite awning I bought off Lunnie had a good test August bank hol weekend at Newgale Farm campsite on a cliff field, winds gusting to gale 5, the awning stood up to it amazingly well, next time I shall have the back end of awning into the prevailing wind though as it got blown off the back of Roma twice. Does anyone know-are the yellow tapes that clip in supposed to be used as extra guy ropes. If anyone is interested the campsite is open from Easter to the end of September, has just a water tap and loo's(very clean) with no hot water, Loads of space-four of us had a whole field to ourselves) fantastic sea views and easy access to the cliff path and beaches. Let me know and I'll post the phone no. up. Lin

Hi Lin The yellow tapes we use for throwing over our dimension to secure it the awning to the van. They then either peg down the other side the van or tie on to the wing mirrors. The campsite sounds lovely, if you find time perhaps you could send us a review for our website. HERECheers Graham

The yellow tapes on my (small square type) movelite are storm straps and I always use them, pegged down by delta steel pegs.
I've been looking for a photo, but don't have a good one showing the straps - Linda took some at the Moira Fest but they're not developed yet, as soon as I get them and scan them, I'll put up a pic to show you!

Here is a piccie of the Movelite attached to our old HyLo smallmotorhome.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=2236The yellow tapes ARE extra guys and being fitted higher on the tent give more support than the lower strings. As you will see we also took two guys from the flap forward and pegged into the ground to stop the flap sliding/blowing off the back of the van. (should be further forward than in the photo). This was usually effective (though not always). We now use the awning on our Dimension, slotted into the groove in the Fiamma side roll out blind. We nearly lost the awning on Skye this May. We left it on site (a private CC & C listed site at Staffin) while we drove to a headland to go whale watching. The whales seemed to be boycotting Skye due to the abysmal weather. While we were walking across the wilderness to the lookout, a "hurricane"blew in. Returning to base we found the awning about to depart across the site, having already been rescued once by the warden! The hardstanding (cut into an embankment with a reverse slope to the surface) was filling up with rainwater and there was about 3" of standing water in the back of the tent, with our sleeping bags slowly absorbing the surplus! It took about 3 days to fully dry out afterwards, so now we are very careful about seeking shelter from the wind before pitching the Movelite. But (with rose tinted hindsight specs on) this motorhoming lark is all good fun innit!

We tie the 'flap' guy ropes round the wing mirrors and just release them to move off. Any hint of wind and the yellow storm guys go on quick. In fact I have to say that whenever we have used the awning we have had to use the yellow ones, says a lot about our weather doesn't it!

I have a square roofed Movelite awning and use the two rear storm straps when pitching on my Outlook, but would like to buy an extra pair of straps to fit the available attachment points on the front corners. Does anyone know where I could buy these?
Must admit I only use awning when I camp with friends as I definately need at least one other person to put it up. When I camp alone I usually manage with just a windbreak and sun umbrella or if I need storage space put up my Outdoor revolution Outhouse.
Spent a lovely few hours on Dunster Beach yesterday in the sunshine after sitting huddled in Roma under Dunkery Beacon in thick fog not realising it was actually low cloud and that the sun was shining brightly on the coast!
I love Exmoor. Used to camp at Westermill Farm with my boys when the were younger. They spent the whole time paddling in the Exe and having permanently wet clothes but we all loved it there. Has anyone else camped there it is near Exford.

I'd try outdoor revolution for a set of storm guys, when we had a pole snap on our movelite they were very helpful sending the new pole onto a campsite for us and then sending it on again when Royal Mail returned it as undelivered!! Highly recommended company as far as we are concerned.

This is a piccy of our Roma camped on the side of a hill just before the storm Tuesday night. So glad we had storm straps out or we know it would have gone. The wind was gusting so hard and shaking the Roma, which wasn't nice. It was a nice quiet site, (a CL) and 1 other unit there. Short drive into Holmfirth to visit Sids cafe & Compo's & Nora Battys house. We headed north after 3 days there and went to The Ranch just outside Selby, which was a private run site but very nice. They do rallies there if anyone is interested. Next stop was just outside Morpeth , a council run site that I wouldnt reccomend to anyone. It was a lovely location , right next to the river, but it needed some serious management . Porta cabins for shower block & toilets which were not cleaned very often and at £19 a nite, not good at all. We used our storm straps all the time, you never know when the weather will change overnight.

I think I am just going to wait till I get home Graham but thanks for the tip. I am on wifi at present and keep losing the connection. To get a signal for the mobile fone you have to go to the beach sand dunes, stand on one leg and put your finger in your ear. Its that remote. We are having a great holiday though and Barney is with us, doing his usual sleeping all day thing. penny
