New Venture have stolen a march on Romahome. There is on their website a Citroen Berlingo Nu Surf. Not my cup of tea but I am sure that it will appeal to some. Click here to look at it www.nuventure.co.uk.

Hi Peter It's certainly a nice looking van, it will be interesting to see if the new Romahome R25 is anything like that. By the way the link didn't work for me but I found it HEREGraham

I contacted Nu Venture some time ago because I was interested in their old version of the Surf. Had seen some around and looked comparable in size to Romahome Outlook. This new version is much longer than the old version and takes it away from the tiny motorhome market as far as I am concerned. There are plenty of vans around in that kind of size.
I am hoping that the new Romahome has not extended its size as much. Will be going to see it soon as they are having a preview nearby.
Nice van though and worth a look in more detail. I do like the storage in the Outlook though and the Luton without a door gives loads of space - not sure if our bedding would fit in that luton!!

I do wonder what the real quality difference is between the Nu venture motorhomes and Romahome. Is it just the one piece fibreglass body? The internal fittings of the Nuventure vans seem to be more sophisticated with lots of wooden doors etc. more like a caravan - but is this an advantage? I recently bought a new Outlook and love it but friends have wondered why I did not go for the bigger, cheaper Nuventure. Like the Mezan of which I hear very little these days does the cosmetically attractive interior really add to the build quality?
There have been no postings on the Mezan thread recently and I wonder if anyone is out there to give us some feedback.

I think it looks nice - definately one I would consider in the unlikely event of my premium bond coming up.

I have looked at the build of the Nu Venture vans before. They do not appear to be the same quality as Romahome and I think that the premium we pay for the one piece fibreglass shell is well worth it to know that joints are not going to leak.. I have seen the results of a Romahome in an accident and was impressed. I wonder about the construction of the Nu Venture shell and the accident resistance. Plus our Outlook is the Pullman version with seat belts on the nearside seats. Do Nu Venture have those?

.. I have seen the results of a Romahome in an accident and was impressed. I have often wondered how they would fare in a crash. What model was it and what was the effect?

C15 Hytop one of the rear corners, lots of pieces of fibreglass on floor but recovery agent swept them all up and took them off with the van saying that they would be needed for the repair. The car that hit it was a right mess.
I once reversed into the side of a car at our local National tyre place (how it happened is another story). I caused an insurance repair of about £2500 including car hire and a new door. The damage to ours was a piece of fibreglass missing from the corner of the bumper moulding. I filled it and a mate (who has a bodyshop) painted it and it was good as new at almost no cost. We were run into with our new romahome in Paris and there were cracks in the bumper parts. Insurance insisted on new ones. The damaged ones repaired and stored in roof of garage for future. Peugeot 607 that it us would have needed a new bumper and headlight.

We looked at a Nu-venture Surf before buying our Roma Outlook, biggest problem is the old one, they make the beds to short. 6ft across he van, the outlook is bigger running lengthways. Also the outlook bed is good and flat and easy to make up, vans that use the front seats as part of the bed are never, repeat never, as comfortable, or as easy, the R25 has gone back to that system.Bad news that they are discontinuing the R20 hitop, their most popular item. Some companies never learn, they think they must copy the opposition instead of building on sales success. hey ho!

Bad news that they are discontinuing the R20 hitop, their most popular item. Some companies never learn, they think they must copy the opposition instead of building on sales success. hey ho! According to Brian Bailey (Romahome MD) in THIS THREAD they are "maintaining production of both existing R20 models". Graham I had a look at the latest R20 HyLo at Loseley and I think there will be problems. Apparently, Citroen are only continuing the "old" Berlingo with a lower capacity chassis and engine output. Also the Spec of fitted equipment is basic. So ... Romahome have had to put the leisure battery in one of the underbunk cupboards (no tip up passenger seat any more). Also the fresh water tank takes up more space under the bunk than our old 2001 model did. The van on show had the toilet and pullman options, hence no clothes hanging wardrobe and even less storage under the nearside bunk. With the lower weight capacity and no storage volume for clothes and other camping gear, it looked fairly impractical, and that was without a heater taking up even more space. Its a real shame they did not simply re-tool the R20 to fit the new Berlingo (perhaps in parallel with developing the R25 for its own sake). Only my opinion ... Barry

I am about to buy a Nu Venture Rio, 2006 size. I have obsessed with my weighing ups, and have decided I will compromise looks for a small motor home that nevertheless has space for a bathroom and a cooker, is comfortable and economical. The bed is 6' long, which seems to be as long as most beds, but maybe not long enuf for some of us. I will be back when I have actually had it a while!

The new Romahome van is not for us and we will still be looking at the Nu Venture and Autosleepers. I doubt if anything will be better for us sizewise than our Outlook, but without having seen the others I can't be sure.
The R25 is bigger and that really is not what we wanted. It has only the same facilities/equipment as we require and get from our Outlook, of course much more spaciously laid out, beautiful finishes and totally up to date. I really wanted separate loo with door even if it was tiny. We have no need of bike racks, showers, oven or any 'fancy' bits.
I have been looking at the Nu Venture 'on line' and seem to prefer the older version of the Surf above the newer version, which again is larger. What is it with the companies that they keep getting bigger?
All this makes me realise that we all want something different and I really don't envy the manufacturers trying to please all the people all of the time!!!
Liz: I wish you well with your Rio, they look lovely and would appreciate your feedback.
