I saw a VW Topaz Autosleeper when we were on a campsite in Bath. Does anyone know this model, or something similar (I think it was on a VW T5) and if so, what would the nearest Romahome be?

I think I am right in saying that the VW Topaz Autosleeper has only 3 forward facing belted seats whereas the Dimension has four, it it based on a long wheel base vehicle which makes it a fair bit longer than the Dimension but certainly the Dimension is the nearest Romahome equivalent.

Does anyone have a Dimension I could have a peek at? I'm in Brighton. Also occasionally Bath and Matlock.

That's a shame we were in Brighton in August at the Caravan Club site, you could have popped over. Freeborns the Romahome dealer is in Southampton if you ever go that way or of course Ant in Bristol but that would be a bit further for you to travel. Have you seen the info about our Dimension on the main website HEREGraham

Thanks Graham, that was very interesting. I think we may keep the Romahome for a year or 2, and then get a T4 or similar ending up with a T5 or Dimension. More research needed I think.

Had a look at a Topaz recently, however the side bench must have been designed for children as it was so narrow! and the belted rear seat seemed overly long and uncomfortable.

We too liked the look of the Topaz but after seeing it at the NEC we were not so keen. It is a lovely vehicle and met our needs with regard to the excellent layout, loo/shower across the back of van (saves space) and a SIDE door. However it does not leave much space for storage of chairs, bedding etc as it has a tiny luton, also it is much bigger than the Outlook.
We are still veering towards the Nu Venture Surf as the layout suits us. We like the NuV stable style door on the SIDE instead of rear, an awning would fit nicely on the side and the van with awning would not be too LONG on a pitch, also like the tiny little loo cabinet, but with its own closing door. They have also fitted a 4 ring hob and it has a wardrobe.
Just wish it had the 4 seats of the R25, the same quality external finish and if they had incorporated the fold down seats like the R25, as part of the bed design it would be perfect.
We will have to wait until the R25 meets a NuV Surf and maybe they would mate and we could have one of the offspring. In the meantime we will keep looking for the one!

I wouldn't consider a T4 based Autosleeper, we had one for 7 years. The base vehicle was considerably underpowered. We often felt like doing a Fred Flintstone going up hills, you wanted your feet through the floorboards to help it along. Also didn't have much passing power and once you lost your speed on hills, difficult to get it back up.
The T5 is a more powerful engine.
We find that the R20 outlook we have suits us in every way and it is a nippy vehicle in comparison.

What engine did you have in yours? I spoke to an owner with a 1.9, I don't know if that was diesel or petrol, and he was pretty positive about it.

The T4 autosleeper we had was a 1.9 turbo diesel, the brake horse power was only about 68. Very underpowered, got about 32 mpg with it, getting over 45 mpg with the R20.
