Hi Ant I have a C15 romahome and I'm sure I read somewhere that one has to put the stabiliser legs down for the van to be earthed when on hook-up, my pall another romahome owner say's nonsence, please can you end this argument. Many thanks. Bryan

Hi Bryan Ant is away at the NEC Motorhome show at the moment so I hope you don't mind me replying on his behalf. Here is what he said in a previous thread: The stabilizers are indeed for both comfort and easing of suspension but there is a safety function that they play and that is earthing the vehicle when plugged into the mains. The N/S steady has an earth lead attached to it so if you use any kind of plate or board to put the steady onto it needs to have a nail or something that sticks though to make the earth. If you don't bother with the steadies at all, and many of you don't, just be aware when entering the vehicle that if you touch the cooker top while still standing on the ground and there is an earth leakage problem you will be the earthing route which may chang your hair style! Ant [/color] You can read the whole thread HEREHope that helps Graham

So, how about us with a Dimension and no corner steadies?

Is this a belt and braces thing or is it one of the Romahome features that the stabilisers are THE earthing method. I know nothing about electric but we were not told about this when we bought the van, we were told that we did not have to use the stabilisers and we don't.
Surely there is an earth in the electric cable when you plug in to mains. I am worried now. We have seen loads of other campers without steadies, but noticed that we were the only ones at Loseley not using them.
I could do with a new hairstyle though!!!

Don't panic Viv, it is a belt and braces thing, the chances of there being a faulty earth in the hook-up and the trip on the van not working and you touch something that conducts electricity in the van while you're still standing outside is pretty slim. The Dimension relies on the van being earthed via the mains lead as it sits on 4 good insulators and has no steadies. The obvious advice would have to be get the van checked each year, it's part of the habitation check. In the 28years I've been a dealer I've not had one case of someone getting a new hair style while entering their van! Ant
