Well, son Craig has to go back to Uni tomorrow and it's my job to take him. From here in Cheshire on the windy roads to mid Wales, that's a three hour journey in the car then 3 hours home again - one of the reasons I bought my little Bedford romahome. 6 hours drive is just getting too much in one day - easy on a motorway, but they don't go to mid Wales and Aberystwyth. Well, I haven't yet been camping in it, or even driven more than 14 miles. We are staying at a farm (so wild camping) where Son is going to look at a static caravan let and possible some work around the farm... We won't be able to stay overnight in the static van as apparantly it all needs cleaning, etc before it can be lived in. (Note to self - better pack some cleaning stuff.) Baptism by fire, both on the driving front, and the camping! Wish me luck! JayJay

Thanks, Graham and Viv! The garage did me proud yesterday, what great guys they are! They fitted a new fuel pump; sorted out, and mended the underneath of the pod, involving fibreglassing the damage from a prev. owner driving away with the legs down, fixed the legs (straightened, greased, and mended so they wind down and work properly) - and they turned the gearstick around so that I don't have to reach quite so far to change into first and second, which was really painful - it's not quite so bad now and I daresay I'll get used to it after 3-4 hours of practice driving to Aberwystwth tomorrow. And then back the day after. They charged me £110 for the lot and they came and took it away and fetched it back 4 hours later - even reversed it into the drive for me... ;D Been to a different garage today (my MOT and tyres place), I wanted them to check the nuts that fasten the wheels on - one came off when we brought it home when I bought it ... some were a bit loose... They checked all the tyre pressures (which were nowhere near what they should have been) and put me some dust caps on - and then wouldn't charge me, although on the phone they'd said there would be a small charge. It handles soooo much better now! Still haven't packed everything - just don't know what to pack for the best! It's years since I went camping even. And there is going to be me, my son (hefty six footer) and the dog in there for the night! It will be a squash I think.... And I'm skint but I'm going anyway. I have to take Craig to Uni and previously this has meant a 5-6-hour journey there and back in the same day, very wearing... I'd rather drive 8 hours plus up to the highlands than drive to Aber. Staying on a farm at no charge overnight - but it's full of horses. I just hope they are in a field with a fence between them and me, or I won't dare come out of the 'van!
