Hi Pauline! Just working out the bells and whistles of your site. Must say that I found your site an invaluable source of info and positivity when agonising over the purchase of my 2003 Outlook. After salivating over the Romahome for the last five years, I finally took the plunge and bought it for my 40th last June. It serves nicely as my sole transport, and the dogs and I use it as a beloved home base for my frequent hill-walking escapades. For a solo traveller, there is no more economical or efficient vehicle to be found. Absolutely delighted with it! Again, thanks for the site and the forum. Will be checking in often.

Hi Jacquie
Welcome to the forum from me too, glad you found the forum and website so helpful, its a big step deciding on whether to buy a van or not but Romahomes are ideal because you can use them for the dual purpose of camping and an everyday vehicle.
If you feel like a bit of company camping we are having a meet at Devizes in the spring, its only our second meet and the first was really successful, you would be made really welcome if you wanted to come.
Have fun in your Outlook.
Regards
Graham

Welcome from me too, Jacquie. You'll find this a really friendly forum and Pauline and Graham do a fantastic job keeping everything under control. Some members are more difficult to control than others

Thanks everyone - I'd love to attend a meet, but alas, I work weekends. I'll hope for something mid-week in the future.

Hello Jacquie
I think the OUTLOOK is ideal , just love it. It makes a super extra bedroom as well when visiting the kids (who's homes are so tiny) and I want to stay the night.
Sorry you cannot make it to the meet. Maybe we can organise something in the week that will suit you in the future. Weekends can also be very busy if the weather is good and it can be easier to find sites on weekdays .
Do you walk alone with the dogs, I would love to take up walking and it is something I am looking in to and may be joining the Ramblers Association as I would be nervous walking alone.
Welcome to the site.

Hi Viv - Because of the bizarre hours I work, I find it difficult to hook up with friends for walking. Perhaps it's not the greatest idea to do any serious walks alone, but it's often that or nothing. I've always enjoyed time alone and grew up in the Canadian wilderness, so am pretty confident. Depending on where you live, there's usually plenty of walking clubs and often guided walks with National Parks etc. Don't know much about Ramblers except they often frown on dogs joining in, which I understand. Anyway, this is one of the best countries in the world for walking and there are plenty of resources. I highly recommend it!!

Hi Jacqui I live in London, so not much country walking around here but I was hoping to find a walking group that combined camping but have not had much luck so far. I used to love walking my dog and stopped walking when she got too old and now we do not have any pets and my husband is too ill to walk anywhere now.
Coincidentally my cousin used to run a wilderness vacation travel agency in Nova Scotia until a year or so ago. He and his wife used to go camping alone with their daughter (they could not go together as they had to run the agency) and she used to frighten me with the tales of the remoteness of the places she used to stay, I would have been quite frightened miles from the nearest neighbourly camper in a national park the size of Wales or even bigger!!!!!
Anyway I will explore options and who knows I may overtake you one day but I bet I will have blisters on my feet!!!!

We retired people have lots of time, so maybe we can organise some midweek walking/camping trips. We are fortunate to live near the Peak District and so have some superb walking on the doorstep. Where are you Jacquie? Maybe we could arrange a midweek somewhere near you for some walking.

Hi Wendy, I live on Exmoor, Devon/Somerset border. I would love to meet up in the PD sometime-hardly know it at all.
I reckon I won't be going too far from home until we have some more daylight though; I pretty much stick to the Coast Path and Tarka Trail at the moment. I study with the OU at present and try to take advantage of the rain and gloom to actually do some work!
Hope we can meet in a couple of months maybe??

Viv Well Viv, I'm from the Rockies where we had to make friends with the bears, cougars and rutting elk. It was a part of life and one just has to understand and respect it. Is your husband well enough to camp? I'll be looking over my shoulder for you!

We are always keen to go into the Peak District, so let us know if you want to come this way. We are hoping to be in your neck of the woods at the end of March - so there is hope for a meeting. BTW we spent 4 years in Canada - Saskatoon (middle of the prairies) 1967-71 when you were a mere baby!

Sounds good to me. Saskabush, eh! Not too much heavy puffing up hills there. Yes, I'm afraid I was still in nappies in that era. What were you doing there??

John was a grad student at the university and I worked to keep him in the manner to which he was accustomed!

Well I don't think our little 'Romagnome' will ever make it to Canada, but who knows!! We spent two weeks in Exmoor this summer and how nice to be living there, it is a beautiful spot, as is the Peak district.
My husband is well enough to camp he just can't walk far so we tend to camp up and I go off to explore, so we find somewhere with a pub or restaurant nearby and he stays put.
Now I am self employed I tend to fit my work around my travels so I have no problem camping weekends or mid week.
Well I am off to work this morning but by the look of the weather I will need my sou'wester!!!
