Coming across a new 2.6 meter height barrier recently at Carsington Water, we thought at first that our parking plans had been scuppered but on looking carefully we saw that it looked higher than the sign indicated. We decided to drive under as carefully as we could and as you can see from the photo we made it in one piece. This is altogether confusing as I thought that the Dimension had a height of 2.8 metres. In future I plan to measure height barriers before admitting defeat.

Hi John
I've often wondered how accurate the stated height on height barriers is, perhaps they have to put it a bit higher so they are not liable if someone scrapes the top of their van when they thought they would get under.
Looking at your picture though they look as if they have given plenty of leeway, at least now you have tested it for us we know we will be safe. ;D
Regards Graham

Having done the unthinkable once and knocked the vent off going under an unexpected height barrier we are really careful these days. Will certainly check though if we really want to park somewhere.

I'm very wary of height barriers, even though I've noted the height of mine in both feet and metres. I just tend to go and find somewhere to park that doesn't have a barrier.
A previous owner of my van obviously drove under one that was too low and knocked off what I think is a vent at the front of the van on the luton, but it's ok and doesn't leak, so I've left it alone.
Another previous owner also drove it away with the back stabilizing legs down, but thats another story! Poor van.

Everything's underground 'cos of the heat, no outside parking whatever. Was there by myself 2 Septembers ago and nearly gret trying to get parked. Height barriers start at 1.9m and go down to 1.6, they also have width restrictions for the extreme curves 6 floors down. Wonderful, wonderful city though... Effie
