Hi crissi So nice to get your message and you are right this is a really friendly little site.
What is wrong with 'losing it' I am always losing it, it's fun. How lovely to have bought yourself a little van. We have only had two meets so far and they were really friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we had a nice meal out together. There are a couple more planned and details are on the General Camping thread, hope you can join us.
There are loads of other groups but we have not yet joined any of their meets so can't comment. We intend to go to the Caravanand Camping meets but just have not got round to it yet.
Hope to meet soon.
Viv

Welcome, chrissi, from me too. As Viv says this is a really friendly site and everyone is willing to give advice. Have a look at the meets on 'General Camping' - we are actually having one next weekend at Hayfield, so come and join us if you can.

Hi Crissi
Glad you overcame your shyness to come on and say hello, we don't bite honestly. You would be made really welcome if you wanted to come to one of our meets, I am also a shy retiring sort of chap and rally's and meets are not really my sort of thing but I was really surprised how friendly everyone was at our last meet at Devizes. We have a few lone campers on here and I'm sure you'll get some good advice.
Regards Graham

Hi Crissi, Glad you plucked up courage to join us The Camping and Caravanning Club have various local and national groups that you might find useful. Some are for people with similar interests and I'm sure there is a lone camper group. It would be well worth joining, I'm sure if you used a Camping and Caravanning Club campsite you would feel safe, they are very well run and there is always a site manager and assistant there to ensure things run smoothly so you would have someone to turn to if necessary. They are always very friendly and helpful. I too would feel nervous at the thought of camping on my own but I think I'd be happy on a C&CC site. Same goes for Caravan Club too. Good luck and happy camping

Welcome to another potential solo camper - I was beginning to think I was the only mostly-solo camper here!
I prefer not to use camp sites whenever possible but am careful in choosing a quiet, semi-remote area and ensuring there's always phone reception just incase there should be a problem. I try not to draw attention to myself by arriving after dark and leave early in the morning and try to avoid using the same spot twice.
For me, part of the fun of avoiding camp sites is learning to improvise, washing in a bubbling stream, enjoying picnic meals miles from anywhere or anyone and, apart from the wildlife, having parts of the country completely to myself for a short time.
Go for it - and enjoy!
(BTW If there are any other solo-campers on the list then I'd love to hear from you!)

Hi Karenw, I too am a solo camper, although I have only just bought a Romahome Duo Hylo. and am preparing to set out on a great adventure!! I am an elderly male on his own, and if I can go adventuring I am sure a younger person can do it. Best wishes, Eugene.

Hi, I too am a solo camper part of the grey haired brigade, and I thoroughly enjoy it, why not join us at Hayfield then we could have a good chat and discuss any fears or problems that we may or may not have, plus the fact that we will have a really good time with like minded people. It is a beautiful part of the country too.

Hi Crissi, I was a bit shy to join too, but this must be the friendliest site on the web I too sometimes solo camp - not yet in my romahome but used to in my tent. I found that its not as daunting as you think once you get started and I've had lots of great times and met some fantastic people. I had the occasional odd looks on campsites being on my own, but then folk started chatting and realised that i wasn't a total fruitcake ;D I'm sure you'll meet up with some like minded travellers. Here's to 'losing it'. Sooz.

Hi, not found a suitable camper yet so anyone out there selling let me know. I will be away, in North Yorkshire, until end of August then back home to Derbyshire. Whilst away I will keep checking this web site.

Hello fellow lone camping chick!!
I've been loadsa places on my own in my vans, wildcamping and in sites - all over mainland Scotland & the Isles - Arran, Bernera, Hoy, Lewis, Kintyre, Orkney, Skye, Tiree plus Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Monaco, Italy, England, France...never a problem. Lots of funny looks from women who seem to think you're after their husband just because you're alone (I couldn't have drunk enough alcohol to render many of them attractive...) but that's all. If I could have taken my van on my New Zealand and Australia trip last November, I would have.
Effie x
BTW, are you Australian?

Hi Crissi,
I too am a Solo Camping Granny!! But I haven't had my Romahome long, and so far only been camping twice in it. I have joined the Motor Caravanners Club, and I have been made very welcome in my local group. I'm hoping that when my stream of visitors have gone home, the weather will be nice to really go out and about romahoming.
I hope that you enjoy your van.
All good wishes, Jackie

My goodness, so many lone campers! Add me to the list!
I went a bit mad (well totally off it really) and bought a little Rascal romahome off ebay!
It's not sorted out properly yet, doing it bit by bit, but sometime soon all us loners will have to meet!
...But then we won't be loners anymore!

Hi Chrissy - I too am a grandma and have just bought my very first motor home ( I have caravanned for 30 years). I tried solo caravanning after my husband died but found it too hard and then decided to 'go' for a Romahome - my daughter son in law and grandson thought I too was mad. I am looking forward to trying it in the next few months. HOWEVER like you I am scared but my experience of cl sites and caravan sites (camping and Caravanning club) is good and I am sure like me you will manage to overcome the fears. Good luck Lizzie
