Well, not so lass-ish, I'm 40 but you're only as old as....
I actually found this board in March or so when I scouted about the web after reading something in the Roma Club mag - so it's thanks to it I'm here! I've had a C15 Hylo shared with my Mum for years and I think I recognise one of the members here as being it's first owner - Mr Holden - if my memory of its V5 serves me. In fact, the van's user's manual was so unintelligible I wrote my own - it was a lesson in using a digital camera and word processing and meant I could lend the van to friends with no problems.
However, my sister produced 2 giggly girls and with Mum and I having a Hylo and Smart for two between us, we realised we needed to sell both and get a van which also worked as a car. After a trip down to Earls Court to check all possibilities, I plumped for a new Outlook Pullman style from Freeborn in Southampton as the Perth place sadly didn't cut the mustard. A huge hiccough - despite being ordered with 3 point inertia reel seatbelt, the Pullman came on the driver's side, which meant it had only lap belts. I couldn't transport my nieces in kiddie seats with 2 rear lap belts so I rejected it for what I'd actually ordered and trundled back down to Southampton last July to get it.
I'd also given up my job by then and so Mum & I set off Thelma & Louise style from sunny Glasgow to see my sister in Portugal last September. I had a ball over several weeks driving about the Continent alone (the Spanish are so friendly - deep breath, big smile and..."me no hablo Espagnol") when Mum flew home from Faro and I certainly found the quirks of the new van challenging - several of these are still ongoing issues - see elsewhere.
I'm the Scottish contact for the Roma Club for now (I thought as I'd owned one and done so much research on wee campervans I could help others who were swithering) I've not been to any meetings (I'm scared to say they're a bit far away in case I'm challenged to organise a Scottish one LOL) nor have I met any of the other Committee members. In fact, I've only ever met one other Roma owner in the flesh, though have seen plenty parked places and had conversations with dozens of interested prospective owners.
Thanks for keeping this such an interesting and informal board, I really enjoy it.
Cheers,
Effie
