I lit the cooker of my new-ish Hylo for the first time today, and although the grill lit perfectly, the gas rings did not light all the way round, and some flames kept going in and out.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and what the solution was?
Also, I have not been given an instruction manual for my Eberspacher hot water system, and was wondering if someone could tell me how I drain the hot water tank? I can't find an external plug like I used to have on my old caravan.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi David and welcome! We had this problem just once in our Duo and found that it was because the gas bottle tap wasn't turned full on and there wasn't enough gas getting through to feed the rings and the grill. Do the rings work OK if the grill is off? If not then they could perhaps be sooted up - the tops came off for cleaning on our Duo by undoing a screw. Hope that helps in some way. As regards the heater - can't help there but hopefully someones else will be able to.

Thanks for that, Pauline. The cooker is less than a year old, and I wouldn't have thought they would be sooted up, but I can try cleaning them.
The problem occured before I turned the grill on, but I will make sure the gas is fully turned on next time.
Thanks again.

Hi David, You don't say how old your Hylo is or whether you bought it privately or from a dealer. If you look at page 6 item 54 on the Roma forum you will see we had a discussion about this problem which might be of some help to you. We bought ours brand new September 2005 and the cooker burners did burn yellow sometimes. When I used it a few weeks ago it seemed fine (same gas bottle). Shows how much cooking I do doesn't it lol. There is an interesting article in The Motor Caravan magazine June edition in shops now about this problem. After their investigations they seem to think it is to do with the new regs that the regulators are fitted to the bulkhead of the motorhome. It is too complicated for me to try and relay all the details to you but they think it is because the new regulators are fitted below the top of the gas bottle height and a substance from the gas builds up and clogs the regulator. The article said that the problem is definitely occurring with motorhomes built after September 2003 which is when the law was changed. The writer of the article has said that if the dealer trys to blame dirty gas etc. show them the article. That is why I asked you where you purchased it from. You might be lucky and after lighting it a few times it might improve. Hope this is of some help to you. Can't help with the hot water I'm afraid. We keep warm with a small fan heater. Let us know how you get on. Moya

Thanks for that, Moya.
My Hylo is less than a year old, and I bought it from a dealer. I hadn't particularly noticed if the flames were yellow - just that not all of the burners were lighting. The impression was of there being a draught. I will light it again and see if it improves.
Thanks, again.

I have been having some problems logging via my main computer, so I am having to use a different one, which has delayed this post.
Anyway, I lit the cooker again yesterday, and this time let it burn for a while. After a fairly short time, the problem seemed to correct itself. Hoping it stays that way!
Thanks for your help.

Hi David, I read somewhere that it can take a little time to flush all the air out of the system.
Welcome to the forum from another Hylo owner.

Hi David, I read somewhere that it can take a little time to flush all the air out of the system. Welcome to the forum from another Hylo owner. Thanks for that Derek. I have managed to make contact with Eberspacher, and they are gradually sending me all of the instructions I need!
