Have just returned from a two week trip in our new Romahome and it was really nice. Only one problem, we could not get the fridge to work on gas so are going to have to go back to the dealer to have it checked - as the dealer is in Southampton I suppose we will have to go the coast for a couple of days and make a trip of it - what a pain!!!!!!! A couple of other minor issues as well but I think the dealer will be able to put these right.
Now that I have had a chance to use the van I can start organising things so they are even easier to use. As I am so small I drive with the seat right forward so I can keep 3 wine bottles between the seat and the spare wheel. I have made a padded fabric wine bottle holder that keeps them safe.
I have now also made a fabric holder with separate pockets for little things like pens, binoculars, torches, etc that fits in to the pelmet storage area so I can find things easily. I do not like to keep too much regularly used stuff in the underseat bits as I don't like keep lifting them up. I can't believe just how much can be stored in these little vans. We managed to take 8 BBQs the little ones from Wilkinsons that cope with just enough meat for 2. (they are 50p each now with customer saving scheme.)
The three wooden bed planks store neatly behind the passenger seat. the windbreak stores along the floor under the seat over hang. what wonderful little vans these are. I am still looking for an airer for the window and I did not manage to use my double skillet as we BBQd on the nights we did not eat out so I have this to look forward to.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your Romahome, Viv. It's fun finding all the little places to put things - the only problem is remembering where they are! ;D Where did you go for your trip? We'd love to hear about your travels. Wendy

Hi Viv Glad you have had a chance to use your van. Don't know if the fridge problem is the same but when we had our first Romahome Duo the fridge wouldn't work on gas either. As it was new we were able to get the fridge manufacturer (electrolux) to come out to our house as part of the guarantee, it was all free and they arrived next day. He said the problem was caused by the front fascia having been moved forward very slightly to fit the fridge into the van and this made it so that the gas knob would not go in far enough to release the gas for ignition. All he did was pack the knob so that it was held a little further out and it worked perfectly after that. Although your problem could well be caused by something else Sounds like you are having fun sorting out the van, isn't that one of the best bits? Trying things here and there until you feel happy. Don't blame you for not keeping too many regularly used things under the seat.....the number of times we made the bed then said "Where's the........?" Yes sure enough whatever it was was always under the bed!

Hello Wendy and Pauline thannks for your replies. Please ignore my spelling it is the typing and not my spelling I promise! I have just taught myself touch typing and it is realy funny if you start and your fingers are on the wrong keys.!!!!! anyway our trip was to Exmoor and we started at Westermill farm - lovely rural site in the valley with the river Exe running through it. No hook up hence noticing the problem with the gas fridge. we then moved to Halse Farm at the top of the moor again a lovely site. We then moved on to the Exe valley caravan site again really nice site and really well organised. On the way down we stopped at the Piccadilly camp sote at Lacock. A good stop half way between London and Exmoor. On out return we stopped at the Caravan and Camping site at Devizes. We were very disappointed at this one, the facilities were very good and clean but the showers only ran for 4 seconds and it was a pain to say the least. Also the reception was only open for about 1 hour in am and 1.5 hours in evening. the staff were around but I was made to feel that I was bothering them when I tried to book another date for the site, in the end I had to phone from home to book my dates as I missed the opening of reception by 10 mins on two occasions. It was also the mmost expensive of all the sites we stayed on at £16.50. the reason that we wanted to book another date is that there is a music weekend at the three Magpies pub next door and on friday 15th sep and Sat 16th they have the Tremeloes and on Saturday Showaddywaddy and being of the sixties it appeals to us but I don;t think we could cope with staying on the CL at the pub and prefer the facilities of the C & CC even the 4 second showers!!!!! anyway happy holidays if you are off soon and perhaps we shall see you on our travels one day.

It's a shame the Devizes site was disappointing for you. We stayed there a few years ago and found the staff really helpful but the trouble is they change the staff most years so the ones we had will have moved on. As regards booking sites have you ever tried booking on line? We always do now, you can check availability beforehand and then get full confirmation by email. You can do it at any time day or night so no problems with waiting for the office to be open. Hope you enjoy the Tremeloes and Showaddywaddy - that brings back some memories! We saw the Tremeloes in the eary 70's. Also remember seeing Screaming Lord Sutch, Wizzard and Sweet....ah those were the days! Graham has seen the Rolling Stones too, once in the 80's and once in the 90's - I didn't go - too noisy and crowded for me!

We stayed at Devizes in May this year and found it to be alright. We booked by phone about an hour before we arrived and found the wardens/managers to be very pleasant. The showers were OK then as well - before the water shortage really hit. One advantage of getting old is that the CC&C reduce the prices for over-55s (except high season) so that's something to look forward to! Hope that things are better when you go back in Sept. Wendy

I am sure it will be fine, the weather was hot and perhaps the staff were very tired, but I just hope that the showers go on for more than the 4 senconds. Out of interest we saw two of the very small caravans I think they are called 'Aribos' when I spoke to one of the owners they told me they actually lived in it and just travelled around. they had sold their house and would be looking to buy another but just wanted to be free for a yeaar and do the wandering thing. The van was a bit bigger than the back of the Romahome and had a wardroge and I think an oven. Well if they can stay long term in one of these small vans then we are more confident of doing it in our Romahome. We have just returned from another trip this time to the new forest but returned after two weeks as we were finding it difficult to find a site that was not booked up and not easy to find without the internet and just the C&CC book and even the CLs were full. We have no commitments at home now and I would love to just go off for several months. We will wait for the Spring though now as the OH feels the cold as he is not in perfect health. anyway bye for now. viv
