Roma CLub and our Small Motorhome site

Seeing the discussion about the Roma Club I thought you might be interested to know that the Roma Club was in some ways responsible for the birth of our Smallmotorhome.co.uk site and later, this forum.

We have been members of the Roma Club for about 6 years. Some time ago they were advertising for a new webmaster. I was keen to try my hand at website building and all this internet stuff and after the ad appeared about three times in succession in the Roma mag I decided to volunteer.

I was turned down, and naturally disappointed, however I decided that the best way forward was to start my own site.

Later, after repeatedly asking questions on the Roma Club Forum and getting no response we decided to add a message board to our site and try to find people to answer on there - the rest is history - here we all are!!!

I have on several occasions written to Romahome Ltd. on the Isle of Wight telling them about the site. I wasn't looking for compliments or a pat on the back but just thought they might be interested, after all we are advertising and encouraging people to buy their products!! Sadly they have never responded.

We know for a fact from various feedback that our site has instigated several people to buy a Romahome. Some have been considering the copied Auto Sleeper Mezan but have changed their mind and gone for a Romahome after reading the site. We feel good about that.

It's nice to know that people have found something useful on here, it makes the work worthwhile!

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think it would become popular or of any interest to anyone but us or our family yet we regularly come up within the first page on various search engines when people search for Romahome.

Yes it is a friendly and personal site as it is so small. I am not sure about the Roma Club, it sounds scary!!! why did they turn you down as webmaster and why did they not respond to your questions?
I like this site and will keep with it.

Perhaps they thought a man would be better at all this technical stuff!

Re questions: They are dependant on members bothering to reply but quite often you see questions going unanswered which is a shame because new van owners need a little help sometimes.

If we get questions on here we try our best to help find an answer.

I have just registered and have spent over an hour reading all the information and forums. It is a tremendous site, extremely informative and as you imply very friendly. I've been a member of the Romaclub for 4 years and have not been overly impressed with the Committee, they are to full of their own importance. However, the members modifications competition at the AGM does throw up some very useful ideas, and I have incorporated quite a few in my Duo. I have also had problems with Romahome not answering communications and found them extremely uncooperative when things went wrong during the guarantee period.
I think you are doing an excellent job with this web site, please keep up the good work.

I agree that the modification ideas can be useful, it's good to be able to share tips. I believe the Avon Quick Tent came about from the competition.

Welcome to our Message Board, I see you have a Duo, we have had two in the past and when people saw us with it they always wanted to come and chat, there are not many about but they are great little vans and really economical to run.
