Hi Pauline and Graham,
Can I suggest a new thread/page or something. I'm facinated by the names people give to their vans. Maybe this is a whole new discussion or maybe I'm totally screwy. Mine's Rhonda and there's a story behind that, so I'm thinking there are other stories. I've seen elvis as a name for instance and more. Would be good to find out what's behind the naming thing.
Also a permanent thread for 'was it you'. I'd love to know if i had waved to others on this site.
Or maybe I'm turning in to an anorak!
Thanks for a great site.
Sooz

Hi Sooz
Yes lots of people on here have names for their vans, there have been a few threads but it would be good to have them all together.
Leave it with me and I'll see what I can do. Plus I'll try a "was it you" area too.

All done. I've created two new sub-boards in the general camping section - I'll move this thread into one of the new areas

Well ours is called MiKeL from it's registration plate. A campsite lady christened it when I gave her the registration.
Can you tell us the story behind yours Sooz?

Hi,
Thanks for the new thread Pauline. Wendy - I'm not someone who usually gives names to 'things' but my wee van seemed to have so much character, so... My partner insisted on alliteration so the name had to begin with r, m or c as in rhonda the romahome or mike the motorhome or carol the campervan. Though this seemed fussy to me, I finally settled on Rhonda because I like the name and she somehow seems like a Rhonda. I think the name means 'rock', as she has had to be in this summers weather!
The weird thing is, after I told family and friends about the name they all without exception refered to her as Rhonda and the words van, camper etc never come up. I think they've all kinda adopted her.
Proves the cuteness of a small van I think.
Sooz.

We don't usually give names to things, but after the campsite manager/warden gave it a name it just stuck! Previous one was 'the van' or 'Grandad's bus'.

Mine is also called "The Van" or "The Camper"
I have never named any of the vehicles I have owned, but when they are not running right I then name them. ;D

Elvis couldn't be called anything else because he has maroon and gold flashes on his "jump suit". He actually had his (fan) belt tightened the other day because he was screaming a bit. he's feeling much better now but his exhaust is knocking a bit against the back so he seems determined to be noticed.

My family refers to our beloved C15 "Freddy" as "That heap of scrap" although our previous Honda Acty was more kindly referred to by the family as the Noddy Van.

We haven't got a name for our Dimension except "the van" but when I used to take it to work my colleagues (who were always game for a laugh) used to call it the ice cream van!
I would be stopped in the car park in the morning and asked if they could have an ice cream cornet, my usual reply which got a few laughs was "would you like crushed nuts" before driving on to park. ;D

Glad i asked for the new thread. LOL already. Martin - I'm sure when they don't do as they are asked all of us will call our vans names, but it probably shouldn't appear in print ;D Graham - love the idea of the ice cream van but surely that proves your van needs a name! Thanks, Sooz

Like others, I "never" name inanimate objects but for some reason I had to name my HyLo Duo Plus when I bought her last September. She is called "Freda" - a combination of Freedom and Air. The name also seemed suitably daft for a vehicle of its type. One day, Pauline, I'll get that photo on this page .....

Our Duo Plus is "Dora" as in Dora the explorer as hopefully that's what we are going to be doing with her - exploring. Also my daughter lives in Spain so I thought the link was quite appropriate. Managed to get as far as Clachtoll in the Scottish Highlands in August - fantastic despite the weather. We stayed at the privately owned Clachtoll Beach Campsite which I would highly recommend. We relaxed so much we forgot which day we were leaving!

My van has the rather grand name of Priscilla Van Morrison! It's a bit of a long story, but Priscilla stemmed from the reg number (PSL) and the mother of all camper vans, "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" from the film. My partner's surname is Morrison, so Van Morrison was suggested, then a friend suggested we combine them all, and Priscilla van Morrison was born! We tend to use Priscilla, Prissy or Prissy Van Mo for short - but really, more often than not, it's just "the van".

Mine was called 'The Wendyhouse' after my grandson saw it and yelled excitedly, 'Nana - I LOVE your wendyhouse!'
However, after going really slowly up hills in Mid Wales, I found myself chanting, 'come on Daisy, you can do it' and occasional apologies to her for getting the gears wrong.
So Daisy she is! I still don't know why or where it came from!

Our C15 Hytop is 'Sid' or "Sid the Snail' as the first time we saw it we likened it's shape to that of a snail. After driving it it also took on a new meaning, being somewhat slower than our sports car, and after a fuel leak and leaving a snail trail of diesel down the road it took on yet another meaning.
