Hi All, Thanks for everyone that has shown an interest in a Newbie Romahome get together somewhere this summer. As I mentioned in my earlier post on this subject, any " Old hands " out there ( Graham, as the moderator of the site I would never class you in the OLD section, just a newbie with experience ;D ;D ) who would like to attend, that would be fantastic as you can show all us newbies how it's done!! So far we have interest from people in Dorset, Hatfield, Notinghamshire, I will be looking for a central area for everyone so that no one has got too far to travel, ( and for those of us who seem to like a little after hours drinkie, I will make sure that there is a local pub within staggering, oops I mean walking distance ) If anyone has an idea of a great place that they have been thinking about visiting, or a preference IE Beach? forest? Sheep!!! then please let me know and I will try and find something suitable, otherwise I will fix the spot as central as possible to all who wish to attend. Please let me know if you are interested and where you are located, I am looking at March or April as a good time to go. Thanks again to everyone who has already said they are interested, looking forward to meeting you all on the road soon. Cheers Dave (Kiwidave)

Hi Dave
I've locked the old thread and put a link to this thread on there so that we keep the discussion all in one place, hope that's OK.
As I said depending on date and place Pauline and I hope to be able to join you, should be good fun.
Don't pick anywhere that you have to walk through a field of cows please. Its a long story if we make the meet I will tell you about our encounter with a mad cow on the last meet. ;D

Thanks Graham, Hope you and Pauline can make it, I now HAVE to hear the "cow" story over a quiet one or I think my imagination may get the better of me Hi Joan, thanks for letting me know you are interested, I will not set the date on any events like Easter or Mothers day as I am sure people will have plans for these dates. Ellie, Thanks for the thoughts about the length of time to get to Wales ( I think it was just the draw of those sheep that got me excited about Wales ;D ) I have been in contact with a couple of camps in Warwickshire as this seems very central. My thoughts about somewhere to camp is: 1 I have been in touch with a Pub in the area that has a camp ground attached ( very easy stagger back to the camper after ) 2 I have also talked to a nice bloke who runs a small camp site, this is very basic but has a river, donkeys, allows open fires and is only £5.00 per night Both of these places got rave reviews in the UK Campsite.co.uk web site and I am planning to visit them to check them out shortly after Xmas. This is what a couple of the reviews said about the place were you can have an open fire: Well we are no longer camping virgins! For our first foray into camping I wanted to share with kids a basic, entertain yourself place and this was it. It truly was a gem. Having looked up on the UKCS website, we knew it was a no-frills place, however its amazing how you cope with no mod-cons. Lack of a shower was the only tiny gripe (washing up bowl in tent sufficed when queue for washbasin in the loo) everything else was just perfect. Discovered hubby was no boy scout though (not easy lighting fire even with 25 matches being used). Large field with plenty of space, giving you feeling of being free and with nature. Donkeys were amazingly quiet, babbling brook was nice except in middle of night when trying to pretend you didn't need a wee! Clean toilets, nice walks and not too far from civilization. Definitely coming again, for £5 a night its a bargain. Kids thought it was fantastic, gave them a little independence, got them all mucky and no-one complained of lack of TV or computer console! Good old fashioned fun in form of a rope tied to a tree to swing on. Kids fell into tent thoroughly shattered, and as any mother with 3 children under 7 would be, extremely satisfied with result, well worth the money! Nice to find a place that had its own toilet roll and soap, nice place to spend quality time! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review by: Poochie Reviewers Profile Date of visit: August 2008 Unit used: Tent My fiancé and I visited this site the beginning of August, we stayed for 4 nights and had a fantastic time, the atmosphere is so relaxed there are no hard rules to stick to just keep the noise down after 10pm. The facilities are basic but clean and always have paper in, even though there are no showers the toilets are big enough to have a strip wash in, there is constant hot and cold water. There is also a drinking water tap on the field. The little village is fab and there is a nice pub there to. One of the best part was the donkeys being right next to you and there really friendly, the views are fab to, really recommend this site and its dog friendly, the gentleman that owns it is really pleasant. There are also some lovely walks and the gentleman that owns the site provides you with maps if you ask him. Will deffo be visiting again And this is about the pub: What can I say that hasn't already been said other than a quiet, peaceful haven that we will visit again and again. Mark (miff) and his wife Sharon were absolutely superb hosts, they allow dogs in the pub which makes a welcome change so my dog Millie enjoyed her stay. The pub is brilliant, beer good the fish and chip van on a Friday night is amazing and the setting by the river is beautiful. Thanks again People well recommended -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review by: Bouncybhall Reviewer's Profile Date of visit: July 2008 Unit used: Tent As a group of young men (and a couple of wives in tow) we found it difficult to find a campsite that would even consider us, proving that ageism in the camping world is still as rife as it was when I backpacked in the 90's. We must have been bounced around at least six sites before we happened upon the site at The Green Man in Long Itchington, and we are mighty glad that we did. Landlord Mark was most accommodating, allowing us the flexibility we needed, with a couple of pitches booked well in advance, and another added last minute. We arrived separately, but were greeted warmly, and the hospitality carried on throughout the weekend. The site itself is little more than a large area of grass, mostly even, sloping off towards a stream at the far end of the site. The area is behind the public house, with parking space on and off of the site if the weather was muddy this would have been a godsend. Throughout the weekend we made use of a local leisure center as the site didn't have shower facilities, but this was a minor inconvenience given the friendly nature of the area. Highly recommended, we are already planning a return. This is just a thought to begin with, if anyone has another idea please let me know. As I said, I will visit these and another couple of places, would everyone be OK with basic campsites? or would we prefer more luxury? Let me know your thoughts and I will keep planning So far we have interested parties now in: West Dorset, Hatfield, Nottinghamshire, East Yorkshire ( lovely part of the UK ) Wolverhampton. if anyone has any date preference, please let me know. Thanks all, and I can't believe I am saying this, as it seems way to early, but Happy Xmas!!!

Hi Dave! Happy new yr to you and every body else in this great forum! Meet seems fine! :)I can manage with a strip wash for a couple of days! or i could just skink! but a hook - up is nice for the endless cups of tea i drink and rounds of toast or crumpets! And the use of a fan heater at nite when it's cold! >:(And it can be in the spring! Could drink red wine all weekend cheaper than a gas bottle refill! But i have to drive home!# Glad you think east yorks is nice! ;)I do like it ! especially nice on a crisp cold winters morning when no one is on the beach except me! Should go out more only two mins walk from the sea! regards ellie sunshine1

Hi Barbara, Steve & Denise Thanks very much for your interest, I have added you all to the list ( which is starting to look good!! ) I have started looking at places with a " little " more luxury but I am trying to stay away for the real commercial sites. I am hopeing to find one with power, showers, pub within staggering distance but not the 100+ pitches with the 300+ screaming kids!! ( no offence to all the nice kids out there I will place a post with a list of potential sites within the next few days for everyone to look at along with the cost per night. So far I am looking at the Warwickshire area as this seems central to everyone. Talk soon Cheers Dave

Hi Dave.
Thanks for putting the effort into this idea. For me it is sheer luxury to be in a solid van with cooker, roof over head etc etc so I am not averse to being away from hook up. So I'm pretty easy really. Just very much looking forward to warmer weather with potential for sitting outside. I have always been a camper, but in tents, and my favourite thing has always been sitting round a fire, so that would be a particular bonus for me. I realise that official campsites which allow fires are few and far between though.
Cheers. Dan

Hi all, Sorry have not been in touch over the last few days, but the dreaded work called ( it can sooooo get in the way of planning ) Anyway, Cas has suggested the following www.greenhill-leisure-park.co.uk/ which looks very attractive ( for all those looking for a little comfort ) or I still really like the idea of the basic site which allows an open fire ( yes my Kiwi side is coming out, beers and a BBQ and the guitar around an open fire Bliss ;D ;D) I don't know if it is possible, but how about a pole to see what everyone would prefer, I will try and set it up, but if I can't then Graham ( mate, buddy, pal ) could you set one up for us? Cheers Dave

Looks like you managed to set it up Dave, well done. I've voted for EHU because if its in March it might be a bit cool at night and we haven't got heating in the van. Graham

Hi All, I have been in touch with the owners of the two sites that we are voting about. The Green hill Leisure Park www.greenhill-leisure-park.co.uk/ has agreed to a discount if we have 10 or more vans. he will make the price £10.00 Per Van Per Night Incl EHU. ;D if we have less than 10 the price will be £12.00 Per Van Per Night + EHU ( £3.00 pn ) The Basic site is £5.00 Per Night ( No EHU available ) I have tentatively booked both sites for 28/29 March 2009 and I will need to let them know which we will take and the numbers coming. So please make your views known via the poll, Graham, would it be possible to add another question to the poll asking if these dates are OK? Happy Xmas all Cheers Dave & Bilbo

Hi Dave
Not had to modify a poll before so I wasn't sure, but I've done some checking and apparently there is no provision to modify a poll not even for Admin, its probably a safety feature so that no one can tamper with the voting.
Best thing I can suggest is that you start another poll asking the question but you will have to start a new thread as you can't have two polls in one thread.

Hi All,
Well so far we have a clear winner on the poll for a comfortable site, please keep up the votes for anyone else that is thinking about coming along.
Can everyone also check out the second thread in the Fancy Meeting Up section and use the poll there to let me know when about you would like to go, so far it is neck and neck with March and later ( thinking April,May for the later time )
Happy Xmas all Dave

Hi all,
Right, we seem to have decided that the comfortable site is the way forward so I will give them a ring and confirm that we will be coming to them.
So far the date poll ( second thread ) has a 3 - 2 in favor of going later, I am going to lock the date poll and place a new one with months, if we can decide on a month very shortly, I will be able to let the camp site know and confirm our placement.
Please check out the new poll and let me know your preferred month, I will go with a majority vote for this.
Cheers all and happy Xmas ( only 2 more sleeps, unless you happen to be a Kiwi then only 1 more sleep - yep two Xmases got to love it ;D) Dave

Hi all, Well I have just got of the phone with www.greenhill-leisure-park.co.uk/ and have confirmed the booking for May 2009 Friday 9th leaving Sun 10th The cost ( as long as we have 10 units ) will be £10.00 per unit per night including EHU After running the date poll it seems that most people were OK with the May booking, so I bit the bullet and went ahead with it ( anyone who can not attend this date, I am truly sorry and if you can't make it, I will try and organize another as long as this one goes OK ) Please can you let me know if you can attend this meet ( would it be easier to start another thread and a new poll..... I am having a poll withdrawal, not started one in days ;D ;D ;D) Can't wait to catch up with you all. Have a really safe and happy new years. Cheers all Dave
